Hi, my wife and I have a new born baby girl. We having some space issues with the ranger, we are both tall( 5 ft8 and 6ft6). We are finding the passenger seat to be tight with the rear facing child seat behind it. Is there any problem putting it on the center seat and use latches from each side of the passenger and drivers seat?

I'm really not sure but congratulations on your new born baby girl!

I don't see why you couldn't do it that way and I'm sure someone with kids (or grandkids) will come along soon and give you the correct answer.

I don't know what the NHTSA or IIHS would say, but as an Official Guy On The Internet, I would think that that is actually the safest place for a baby bucket; further away from side impact and flying glass. As long as you can attach both sides to the latches, you should be good to go. If not, try scooting the front seat a little farther up and adjust the setback more upright.

No problem, and Chris was spot on. Due to prevalence of side-curtain airbags in modern vehicles, the center position is actually the preferred position for rear-facing car seats.

Congrats on the little squirt! Mine is already almost out of his booster so best believe everyone that has come out of the woodwork to tell you "it goes fast."

Having gone through all this kind of stuff 20 months ago; does your local hospital have a car seat specialist? We had to meet with ours before we were ''allowed'' to leave with baby Ranger. They would know if it is safe to do center. I would hazard a guess that... no, it's not approved. You really only need an inch between the car seat and the front seat, that's enough for us, but we aren't tall people.
