it seems to work for everybody not using a vpn
I fixed it! I had to allow AA and AAWireless to bypass the VPN. Works great now, and I get to keep the VPN. I'll admit I was a bit too quick to want to return it.

I also hated having a long cable snaking around things or having to coil it up and tuck it in the console cubby. I recently ordered one of these from Amazon and it’s great.

It’s a little less than a foot long and stretches to about two feet. It works fine for when my phone is sitting between the hand brake and the console, when it’s in the front cubby, or in a vent clip. It doesn’t get in the way and because it’s black, it’s just about invisible.
That cord looks familiar ?, is technology going backwards now ??

Would I have to un pair my phone, re-pair, disable VPN, re-setup AAWirelss? Then there is a chance it will work? If so, if I then re-enable the VPN, will that screw it up, requiring me to disable it every time?
AA wireless and VPN do not work together, even in my car with direct AA wireless support, it's not the adaptor, it's how AA works with the wireless connection. You need to disable the VPN while connected to the truck's BT somehow.

I was speaking of options in the Google (formerly Google One) VPN where you can whitelist networks that you trust so the VPN is deactivated while on them. I would imagine any decent VPN on a mobile device would have a similar option.

Yeap, that is another option, I could never get AA added that way as it was not listed on my phone in the app bypass list.

That's weird. I didn't even know it was an option until the AAwireless support agent suggested it. In my VPN, it was under settings, bypass, enable, apps, then select AAWireless and AA itself.
Today I still got an message at one point that I had to unlock my phone to enable AA. I did and it worked fine. Then making two stops later, didn't get that message and it worked fine.
