Hmm... looks like some of that "pesky" drywall and possibly a stud is in the way, I'm thinking ? a mini pocket door, either hidden or highlighted to show off your skills , push button or key fob for slow open and close ( something called a "damper" can be useful in this, and only this situation because it's never appropriate on a tailgate) some lighting would also be nice and you could stash something in there so you really don't mind changing the filter all that much ?...Hey @Roofhopper , speaking of 4” box filters…
It comes out if you crush it a bit. ??No way I’m getting an electrostatic filter in there - the water heater is on the other side. Oh, and it’s not even installed properly for the proper direction of air flow.
