That was kind of my point - it isn't ONE shop - it seems like EVERYWHERE charges an outrageous amount to replace that filter. It is just nuts.
Because they see that everyone else can get away with it. :-D

The obnoxious thing about all of this is that it's not like Ford custom designed the filter. It's a generic part, also used in some Lexus/Toyota models. When the ranger first came out the third party suppliers hadn't started putting the Ford part number on the compatibility list so they were hard to find if you were looking for something for the ranger. Now the exact same third party replacements are available stamped with either toyota or ford part numbers as you prefer. Just get some $10 generic replacement, swap it out when the mice fill it with shell fragments. Also, add wire mesh to your cabin air intake. The hardest part of the whole operation is getting the soft release cable hooked up, luckily I think that's one of the things Ford took out to increase profits?
