What most people consider "good" ride quality I dislike. Most of the cars I've owned have been very stiff (like my 500 Abarth and 124 Spider Abarth).

Problem is I'm looking for good torque, and only the ranger and diesel colorado really fit the bill, and the Colorado is silly expensive with the diesel. The 2021 Frontier will have the most torque of the V6 options, coupled with the new 9-speed it might be able to leverage it well, but the truck doesn't exist yet.
The Ranger has a long wheelbase for its track, which is a handling handicap, but it is stable and well engineered and excels compared to other trucks. Still a pure truck, well refined.
I would rather have a dedicated 2WD truck, but barring that , this is a great compromise.

I have never owned a vehicle which did not require mods right out of the box, until I bought my TC... and now my new Ranger.
I agree that the diesel is a silly choice, both for price and for having a diesel in a light truck.
I could comfortably tow a car to BlackHawk with the Ranger but I'd keep it off the track.

this needs to be addressed:

" They do have learning process they go through to adapt to your style of driving though "

no it does not.

this is what it does.

Oh, so I'm the one learning, not the truck.

By this page I'm sure everyone can agree that there is a robust aftermarket solution for any concern you may have. The only thing I would have gotten more than I did would have been the B&O sound system.

I used to install stereos and thought that upgrading the (pretty good) factory Sony setup would be a snap except for the Fake Engine Noise which seems to be difficult to defeat.

I can I can answer most of your questions, as I have a 2020 supercab saber FX2 with tow package. the FX2 package does not include the tow package, I recommend you get that separately. The FX2 does include the FX suspension package which I imagine is very similar to the FX4. Most people have found the shocks to be uncomfortable and not very good for off-roading, the recommended upgrades are the Bilstiens or other. the payload is not affected, if if anything it would be increased as the FX Springs are more robust. As stated, you need to get the tow package if you want to do any real Towing, and you'll have to add a trailer brake controller. If you add the red Arc yourself, you have to disable emergency braking in the menus. While you're using it. If you get the Ford variant and have them install it you don't have to do this. But it's a good deal more expensive. As far as engaging the rear Locker, there's no high and low with the FX2 model unlike the four-wheel drive. The recommended technique is to push the locker button which is on the console, and slow the vehicle to a slightly crawling is probably the best way to get it to lock up and then go. It's only to be used on off-road not for pavement. I've had no problems with it with the 10-speed Auto oh, she looks great! I drive mine mainly in sport mode. It does come with the Hankook off-road tires. It does not come with a skid plate, either for the front or for the transmission, you'll want to add one, to do so, you need to change the tow hooks to four by four tow hooks then the front of skid plate will bolt to those. the rear skid plate bolt holes are already there. i added the plates, a trailer brake controller and Bilstien shocks, all around. love the truck. fx2 pkg does force ypu to get 101a package, which is enough for me. comes on xlt as well.

Someone has done it, if you search the forum you'll find it.
I've done the Swap, all you need besides the Skid and Trans plates with bolts are 2 Tow Hooks off of any 4x4 Ranger. They have the threaded Mounting point that the skid needs to bolt to in the front. The 2WD, even the FX2, does not have these mounting point. The FX2 i think was originally going to come with a full skid plate, as early pics show it with a full silver plate. Later Bean counters must of gotten to it, because that changed to a sad piece of plastic. I guarantee you it's gonna be a blast to thrash around on the dirt.

Incidentally, there are 2 Front skid plate available, a black one that doesn't have the front coverage and isn't all pretty- sub 100 bucks. Silver is around 300, a little less. Budget around 600 for new Ford parts. About 75? for each tow hook, less then 100 for the Trans plate- pretty small piece, and 280 or so for the silver Front plate, a must for any self respecting FX2 owner. I wonder sometime how these Scrooge bean counters sleep at night?

The only thing I have to get used to is it will lug the engine in slow moving traffic. I'm sure that is the programming from Ford to eke out millionth of an ounce of gas mileage. If it gets to bad I just pull it into sport mode
Press that tow/haul mode button for the best throttle response available on this transmission

I wanted super-cab XL with tow package, it ended costing more because they found me a 4wd, with running boards and locker. The stock 4wd suspension is sweet spot your looking for, don’t put in more than 35 psi tires.
