I'm with you, preferring not to slam anything on my vehicles or around the house, for that matter.1. I hate slamming anything. No matter what it is, it will last longer and perform better if it’s taken care of and not slammed/dropped
My late Dad, however, had a secret hate for tailgates I believe. He would not let the gate casually slip from his hands when lowering it.
Rather he would forcefully force the poor thing down with all his might, this might of been OK when pickups use metal arms instead of cables to support the gate.
This practice resulted in multiple cable failures and metal fatigue in the bed structure to where the cable was attached to his '95 F-250. He even managed to break both cables at once on one occasion, resulting in the gate dislodging itself and falling to the ground.
I always made it a point to lower the gate on my Rangers myself when he was around.
