1. I hate slamming anything. No matter what it is, it will last longer and perform better if it’s taken care of and not slammed/dropped
I'm with you, preferring not to slam anything on my vehicles or around the house, for that matter.
My late Dad, however, had a secret hate for tailgates I believe. He would not let the gate casually slip from his hands when lowering it.
Rather he would forcefully force the poor thing down with all his might, this might of been OK when pickups use metal arms instead of cables to support the gate.
This practice resulted in multiple cable failures and metal fatigue in the bed structure to where the cable was attached to his '95 F-250. He even managed to break both cables at once on one occasion, resulting in the gate dislodging itself and falling to the ground.
I always made it a point to lower the gate on my Rangers myself when he was around.

Can't believe how far south this thread turned. My opinion is Ford cut corners on this truck to get it to market when they didn't have to. I ordered the damper will install when it arrives. Don't need or want the damper that's cool. Lot of us obviously do so no harm no foul.

sorry if you cant open the Ranger's tailgate without slamming or dropping it you ether have severe mental issues or you don't even have the strength to hold a full can of beer.
so I’m fairly new here but I’m guessing you are one of the local forum trolls?

if you think anyone here can’t open one without slamming it or can’t hold the weight then maybe it’s you with the issues? The more obvious answer is that people would rather not have to let it down. It’s a matter of convenance. Much like that beer you were referencing having to hold, wouldn’t it be better if you didn’t have to hold it but by some magic it was worn on your head and piped right into your mouth? It’s kind of like that. Glad I could help you understand.

Guess some people do not like soft close tool boxes.

This thread continue to amuse and entertain me.........................why would anyone care that someone else puts this part on the truck that they own is beyond me. It's a great add on and in has nothing to do with the weight of the tailgate for most people (most likely none) that have it. So weird.

When the damper kit became available from DeeZee I immediately ordered it, along with a keyless entry pad from my dealer. As I posted elsewhere in this forum, I hate slamming things and have learned from personal experiences the consequences of doing so.
Frankly, I care less about what other members perceive about the purpose and/or installation of this device, it is purely a matter of personal preference.
Much like how others have bought their particular truck in a particular color with a particular trim package, S/Cab vs. S/Crew, 4x2 vs. 4x4.
It is what they prefer and can afford, they are the ones paying thousands of dollars for it, not me.
When members post images of their new build I make it a point to congratulate their choices, it may not be what I would have specified but, what the hey, it floats their boat.
In my almost 65 years on this planet, 24 of them living in a firehouse, I've seen many different personalities and egos and learn to be civil with everyone. In an emergency situation you are praying that brother (or sister) is watching your back, no matter what kind or color of vehicle they choose to own, dampened tailgate or not. Such is not the time to be quibbling about personal differences.
The keywords here are 'maturity' and 'respect'.

Probably wouldn't want one of these either!

That has to be the best modern plumbing advancement in recent history, I've replaced several toilet bowls as a result of slammed seats.

And the great thing is that you can continue holding your beer while getting your tools out!:giggle:

I really like these but I only replace one of my toilets with this but left the other alone. Reason being if the seats up and you need to go #2 that extra 2.5 seconds waiting for the lid to close could be an accident waiting to happen. :lipssealed:

With the advancement of voice activation, I am surprised that such technology has yet been applied to such a mundane device. that I am aware of.
This would have vastly helped with toilet seats that would not stay raised because they were adorned with fuzzy cover covers that our Grandmothers festooned their "crappers" with.
All you male "Boomers" know exactly what I mean...

In such a situation I don't wait for the seat to lower fully, I simply force it down with my you know what.
The consequences of damaging the soft-close mechanism are far less than the resulting biological cleanup.
