the hell with the damper I want one of those little lock/unlock squares on the door handles on my tailgate! pisses me off every time i leave my keys in the truck, go to unload something, and the damn tailgate is locked. Stupid to have a lock on a tailgate anyway unless you get one of those hardtop covers.

I feel your pain, but can't the door unlock (and hopefully tailgate) unlock protocol be changed to like say the truck's transmission being placed into park?
For what it's worth, the tailgate on my 2000 SuperCab was stolen twice because it had no lock.
BTW, it did not have a camper shell nor a hardtop cover either.

Now that I agree on! I usually have my equipment in there during the week for work so I like that it locks because I don't have to take everything out if I'm running errands.

Unplug it. Can't be that hard

Easy to unplug right under the tailgate - Ford even provides a end cap for the Truck end - you would have to devise a cover for the tailgate end...

I am aware I could just unplug it I was just wishing it had one of the keyless entry buttons on the handle like the doors do. I find putting it in park or slowing down to under 10mph or whatever it is doesn't unlock the tailgate only pushing the button does and this I often forget. It's not a big deal just irritating.

When I finally receive my 2020 I plan to do some mods via Forscan and will look into this and keep you posted.

careful though some dealers wont honor warranty if you use forscan. stupid i know but they are like that...

TAC on Amazon. $159.99 + free shipping. Were as easy to install as OEM ones that I have used. All brackets and hardware incl. Just be SURE to order for type cab you have! And unless you live in SoCal be prepared for the shipping wait!

You can use the key with the Ranger too. They should have put the keyless lock/unlock sensor in the handle like all four doors have.

you mean it had a seperate button on the key or it locked/unlocked with the door button? A separate tailgate button would be nice where it never locks unless you hit the button. I guess I just need to learn to keep the keys in my pocket.
Also I guess even if they put the little switch on the tailgate handle like the door handles have you would still need the key in your pocket for it to work.

Just ordered up a tailgate dampening strut on ebay. Cheapest price I could find.

BEWARE... lots of knock offs and ones that are not guaranteed will fit, so be careful!

Here's my take on the "damper battle" - buy one, install it, and if you still think that it's useless, re-sell it for $35. I wonder what percentage ends up keeping it? ;-)
