Changing the name of an infectious disease in the middle of a growing outbreak may seem risky. But experts are confident it can be done — and that it would be riskier to do nothing.

Imagine all the people of the world coming together tackling such as onerous task as finding an acceptable new name for a disease - if this can be accomplished surely such trivial tasks as solving global warming are doable. Sometimes risks are worth taking, my faith in humanity may be on the rise.

Who writes this kind of stuff - not my reply but the original article.

I'm a California native of 58 years. What most have said on this thread about how California has gotten to this point is fairly on point. I look at California as a great example of why the Electoral College system works for our country. It gives the less populous states an important voice. If we didn't have it, our country would be going the same way as California. The densely populated liberal cities would control the vote and the middle of our country would have no recourse to prevent it.

I've loved California and it saddens me the direction it has taken in the last 30 years. We've done so much to increase the quality of our air that we've gotten to the point where it takes twice as much money now to achieve less than half the gain. In addition, taxpayers are footing the bill in an effort to save the rest of the world.

I live in San Diego. We already have the highest energy prices now and close to the highest gas prices in the country. This past week we've had energy alerts because the grid can't keep up with demand. I don't even want to start on home prices.

Are we going to completely rebuild our ailing electrical grid and provide enough "Green Energy" for all these electric vehicles in 13 years? Many engineers have already pointed out that most suburban neighborhoods in our Golden State could not support more than 20-25% of homes charging only one electric car overnight.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that this isn't going to work. But boy, it sure gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling that you are saving the world though  At some point, we as a state have to accept that facts actually trump feelings if you want to accomplish real goals.

If this follows through, we will have daily rolling blackouts, sky high energy prices, and a less mobile population like a 3rd world country. However, we would be going around patting ourselves on the back about how great and progressive we are as a state.

I have nothing against E.V.s However, I think we should be setting mandates to improve our electric grid and figuring out where and how we are going to get the power first before we start setting dates to ban sales of gas-powered vehicles.

No different than the CRT-diversity - equity - inclusion fraud and connected 'programmes'. Money and 'programs' have been thrown in that direction for 80 years now. Can't fix the unfixable..... Incredibly, certain people are profiting off of this stuff.

Remember the original Pigford Scams under 'Obama'? Pigford III is now under way..... :(

Same thing happening in Maine with the socialists from MASSHOLE Land aka Massachusetts moving here because of lower home prices and taxes only to vote on items to make it like the state they left ?
It's been non stop.

I work in construction, once the covid hit we started getting a metric shitload of work for all these jerks from the city who wanna escape the population/covid density and move up here into their summer house full time. It's nice we got a ton of work, it's too bad it's for people who are gonna ruin what little we have left.

It's actually been hardest on some communities way up north.. those towns with populations under 100. Some of those towns have had their populations double or triple from people who want the Mayberry lifestyle.. and the towns just can't support it.

Agreed. My in-laws live in Quincy. They've been taken over by douchebags from Sacramento. We used to go visit them to escape. Nowadays their area is just as crowded as the Denver metro.

This link below contains some quotes that proved entirely wrong, other historical stuff I'll add "the world is flat, boats will sail off the edge, man never walked on the moon, autos will never replace horses, man will burn up if he attempts flight, eating food cooked in a microwave will cause cancer" and so on. Some residents of the Golden State are rightly concerned about the power grid, I have a simple solution, just take the necessary power from a state where less than 10% of energy comes from renewables, yet the blame was placed on solar and wind when their power grid notoriously failed, same state that has made countless fortunes and billionaires from favorable energy legislation, same state which they claim to be heaven on earth where residents in large numbers flock to the centennial state each summer and many even buy homes and god forbid more here, let's all play name that state.
The technology exits as proven in some progressive countries - but it is going to be costly and won't happen overnight. I still have to grimace when I see posts discussing how effective solar energy has been in reducing their home energy bills, plus they gleefully cite how they use gov incentives - yet they join in the chorus here with those expounding the reasons why EVs aren't a good idea.
my .25 cents - inflation has raised necessitated the change, but hey I'm adapting. :sunglasses:

Didn't see a post about it, but,...
What are they going to do about visitors/tourists who drive ICE vehicles that want to enter the state ? Are their going to be "ICE Border Police" to stop them, or require an entry tax ?
What about the thousands of campgrounds that are not able to support EV's ? Will the motorhomes be allowed in ? What about the industries that support rv/tourist industries ? Are they going to do away with gas/diesel fueling stations ?
Airplanes operate on ICE...are they going to be banned ?
WOW !!!

California is set to roll out its long-awaited ban on new gasoline cars on Thursday, which is part of its rule to have all new cars sold by 2035 to be electric only in an effort to fight climate change.

Governor Gavin Newsom first announced the ban in 2020 as a means to reduce he amount of smog-induced pollution in the air, which will improve the state's air quality that is the worst in the US.

The move will also make California the first in the world to mandate zero-emission vehicles on its roads.

So the order book for new Rangers will be closed in rainbow and unicorn land, hurrah now maybe us in the real world can get our rangers faster

Ban em all I say, lol . And my comments about the state that has it's own power grid and blamed renewable energy when the grid failed - why haven't they stepped up and banned solar, wind and EVs to ensure the integrity of their grid ?

Nothing to get really worked up about as with political change so could the direction of promoting EVs and phasing out ICEs, however this would put the auto industry in a bit of a bind, not having a consistent and enduring national energy policy has it's costs.

Agree with what most are saying about the inadequacy of todays power grid, but with growing necessity of ac in many areas as well as population growth - what is the best solution, continue to piecemeal patch it or make large investments and upgrade it to support future demand ? If the latter then the question becomes mostly one of cost. But one can look at WWII when the nation's resources were dedicated to wartime production and an incredible amount of armaments were produced, and much it was funded by increased tax rates on companies and individuals, along with people stepping up and using personal savings to buy bonds. So if the EV movement progresses - get ready to pay for it.

Speaking of Northern Maine......

Spent a bit of time in Maine servicing various customers. Presque Isle was interesting in that I had no customers there but had a major customer across the border in Hartland, NB. Often, it was easier to fly into Presque Isle, take a rental across the border and back.

Small commercial airport that was once part of a major Air Force Base many years back.

I always stayed at the historic Northeastland Hotel in downtown Presque Isle. Truly excellent and a rich history - not expensive either.

Many good memories.

Deja vu - same chit, different day. It's all related. The only way this electric vehicle scheme will work is through massive depopulation.

First attempt was back in 1918:

In January 1918, Vaccines were Administered to Soldiers at Fort Riley, Kansas. Shortly afterward, the Vaccine was Offered by the Division Surgeon to the Camp at Large. The Vaccine used was Made in the Laboratory of The Rockefeller Institute. Between January 21 and June 4 of 1918, Dr Frederick L Gates reported an Experiment in which Soldiers were given three Doses of a Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine. The Vaccines were Spitball Dosages of a Vaccine Serum Derived from Horses.
