Has anyone had any issues with brake squeal? I had the rear brake pads and rotors replaced last fall and I am getting a break squeal from the rear now. The pads are 8mm in the rear currently. I had it into the dealership last week and they said they greased the sliders, however, the squeal returned the following day. Has anyone had any issues with the calipers?

Mine do it when it gets dirty and goes away after I powerwash it. It's doing it right now cause I haven't washed it in awhile. Plenty of pad left on mine too.

I've got a bit of squeal coming from my rear pads. Goes away when warm. Doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it at the moment.

Mine stick some often, but other than a couple times in the past 2 years almost no brake related noises.

The shop probably used cheap pads and the metal shim that backs the pad is what’s squealing. Premium pads have a shim that is adhered to the pad or is some sort of rubber material. Cheaper ones the metal shim isn’t adhered or if it is, it easily delaminates causing the squeal… which technically is a high frequency vibration….

Back in 1976, I worked (in the Parts Dept) for a VW dealer in IL. VW was one of the manufacturers who started putting disc brakes on all their cars, and of couse, this was before shims. Owners would come in to the service dept complaining of the squeal. I recall one tech suggesting the owner turn up the radio to drown out the squeal...

I have used this stuff to good effect: CRC® Disc Brake Quiet https://www.crcindustries.com/media/tdn/techbrief_doc-1003632.pdf Clean back of brake pad, both sides of shims between caliper pistons and pads if shims are present. Clean the grooves on the caliper wherein slide the pads, both sides of shims in the grooves if any shims are present. Apply to both sides of shims in all locations, back of brake pads, grooves on calipers, & shims in those grooves if any. AVOID Getting any on surface of brake pads which contact rotor, avoid getting any on the rotors.

Took care of brake squeal in other cars I've driven. Not had that problem on my Ranger.

Similar products (Loctite Disc Brake Quiet Stick , LIQUI MOLY Brake Anti-Squeal Paste, PERMATEX® DISC BRAKE QUIET, etc.) probably work same.

I service my own brakes every spring and every fall minimum. I usually do it more often depend on how much I off road the truck.

The best lube to use is called “EZ Slide” made by Kleen-Flo…

It’s a silicone based lube a lot like dielectric grease… but not quite.

The best thing to do to prevent brake squeal is use a bit of EZ Slide behind the shim or when you replace your first set of pads buy high quality pads that have the rubber adhesive type shims.

The stainless steel shims on the brake pad carrier or bracket can also make a dirty squeal when they dry out and rust gets underneath… I use the EZ Slide and a bit of “Kroil” penetrant mixed together under them. Seems to last the longest and prevent corrosion.

rubbing the EZ Slide on the caliper piston boot and slider boots keep the rubber soft and pliable.
