You will need to replace that wiring harness with a KB3Z-15K868-C wiring harness since you don't have the parking sensors in the bumper. Your cable has the 4 pin connector so it will not accommodate the 7 pin trailer socket and will need replacing with the above part number cable. You will also will need a FU5Z-14489-A trailer 7/4 pin connector to mount in the bumper.
I said that I do have parking sensors. I edited my post above and added the -D.

My question remains -Is there a way to verify that I have a 15K868-D? Does anyone have a pinout diagram with wire colors that I can check my harness against.

My thinking is that I may have the four trailer brake wires capped off and bundled in the rear harness I have. I wanted to ask here before I start cutting tape and split loom to investigate.

If you have only the 4 pin trailer connector, then you have the wrong cable for a 7 pin and will need replaced. The 7/4 pin connecter has both connectors built into the part number I gave above for the connector (FU5Z-14489-A) . I've done this on my Ranger, so I am giving you good information. You will need the KB3Z-15K868-D (with the parking sensors) cable.

Have you seen my posts #10 and #12 above? They contain the part numbers and wiring diagrams that you are asking for. The wires are not capped off in the harness at the rear of the truck.

I dont doubt your info at all, and I am grateful for it!

This is my thought train, so hear me out - Since the -D harness had wiring for both flat four, and 7 round connectors, I think it be completely possible that I have the -D harness, but only the wires for the flat four connector are being used on my truck, and that the other wires may be capped and bundled in the loom somewhere at the bumper. Maybe not, but its possible, because Ive seen Ford do strange things with wires.

I guess I'll have to cut in there and see.

Yours will not have the correct cable with the presence of the 4 pin socket. The correct cable does not have the 4 pin trailer connector. If it had the correct cable, there is a round connector that plugs into the back of the 7/4 pin trailer connector socket. There will not be any hidden wires in the bundle.
Take a look at these links and see what I am referencing:

Well, at least you answered before I made the incision :)

Thanks.

See my revised post above, I included links so you can picture what the harness and trailer socket look like.

Understand that you are missing (1) wire that runs back to the Trailer Connector
The (Blue) Wire at C405 Pin 8 - Should (Dead End) at that connector.
This is the (Trailer Brake-Activation) wire and is the reason you need the new harness as if I am correct (The Blue Wire) Terminates and Dead Ends at C405

Also understand that the Ford wiring diagrams are not truly an exact match to how its actually wired.
Point is that all Rangers have the Trailer Module even if you only have the 4-Way connector and the lights route through it - with the below diagram - it does not show that.
It also does not show the (splice) for the 4//7 Way split for those that have both connectors.

Understand by looking at the diagram below and note the (4-Wires) (Taped) - note how they route - This is where you are getting confused.

These may clear it up better (Diagrams)

Actually there are (3) wires that dead end at the C405 connector if you only have the 4-pin trailer connector. Besides the blue brake controller wire there also the 12V auxillary power wire (orange) and the backup light wire.

If he installs the correct harness to the bumper, he doesn't need to worry about any wiring except under the dash. All the wiring to the bumper and 7/4 pin trailer connector will automatically be taken care of by the correct wiring harness.

Correct - and in addition to the (TBC) he gains (Charging and Reverse (back up) lighting to the trailer connector, since he was wanting specific info for the 4 wires at the kick panel and get his TBC to work properly the (TBC) is the only one required, the other 2 are just a (gain) over the 4 pin connector.

I also mounted mine in the 12v power port hole like others have done. Saves from tearing out the console.

The one that came with the controller best I can remember, don't remember buying anything special. But it has been years ago .
Don’t remember- but did you install the Ford Branded TBC ? That may be the reason of difference in design.
Refresh for Shapeshifter- the Ford Branded TBC has been discontinued and no longer available .
