What a great set up/property you have there James! At times I do miss mine back east, it was nice having acreage and privacy but it's also a lot of work at times.Bring it.

Yeah, I love our location. This view is looking east, looking to the west is the Blue Ridge Mtns. Pretty much 360 gorgeous views. That's my closest neighbor's property with the sheds. There's a small creek at the bottom. Otherwise fairly private. Hills, mountains, cow pastures. But lots of mowing and trimming. About 2 acres.

That's dangerously cold - we're expecting only -22 C / -7 F overnight - similar to nearby Detroit, MI. Stay warm and stay home!Only 8-12 predicted here on Sunday night into Monday. Here are the temps the next two mornings. And then add windchill, however they figure that in.

Southeast Virginia here and I got the 20Kw generator hooked to the Kubota diesel PTO already and tested. We lost power for 13 1/2 days during the last storm and all I had was a 6Kw gas generator at the time. It was not a good time.

Man, you're set. My house came with the generator hook-up outside and a transfer switch inside. I really should jump on the next deal on a good generator that comes along.
Canadian Tire (think Harbor Freight meets Walmart, but without all the clothes and groceries) used to have a very generous return policy on generators - buy it in the fall, return it in the spring if you didn't use it. My guess is their return rate was kinda low.

When I rewired this old shack, I put in a 200 amp panel and a manual transfer panel as well. So it is either on the power company feed OR the generator feed, no way to back feed out to the power company line. The Kubota diesel only turns about 2300 or so to make the generator happy at 60 cycles which is way better than the little diesels turning 3600. The tractor and generator are both inside the tractor shed out of the weather and that little three cylinder just barely sips the fuel.

I have a 12 kw solar inverter with about 40 kw of batteries so we are good. All We need is a little sunshine and we can go forever. Also have a 15 kw generator to recharge the batteries without sunshine. We loose power all the time and are ready. I built an insulated shed to keep it outside.
