This was an epic storm that we haven't seen in a long time spanning 2,300 miles. I know many don't really keep up on it or turn to local news/weather which I've found to be unreliable. Usually it's too late by the time they announce the changes. I've always been a weather geek and have been fascinated by the way the storms form and change. It's nice to see others like Robert @Grandaccess who is also into it and add more info to help others out. That's what this forum is about, helping others out not just with their Ranges, but whatever else we can offer too. Hopefully there's not to many here in the midst of it. But I think Robert is secretly hoping for 2+ feet of snow for some crazy reason. lol

lol Steve, if I were you I'd have been in that RV and headed down towards Miami 2 days ago! :sun:
Retired from there and haven't been back since 1996. I'll take snow and ice any day over having lost 2 homes blown away by hurricanes !!!
Besides, pantry full, whole house genny ready, and no need to go out....
We are right in the Virginia Bullseye for snow/ice, but we're just gonna hunker down.
Prayers for any of you that have to go out for any reason....

I just meant take the RV down and spend some time (a week or so) in the warmth, not live there. As much as I love the sun and beaches there I could never live there either. Way too stressful to always be worried about loosing your house (and life) with the hurricanes and tornados. My good friend from MA moved there 3 years ago and I tried to warn him and now he regrets it. But the market changed and now he'd lose money so he's stuck for a while. Stay safe!

I'm halfway between Raleigh, and the NC/Va line.

I cleared most of the trees after losing 20 pines to an ice storm around 2002. Sounded like shotguns going off as they split 15' from the ground. The problem is that the remaining pines have grown much taller and could still hit the house / detached garage and my out building if they fall the right way. We are looking at 0.75" of ice... enough to cause lot of problems if there is any wind.

Last time there was no wind and they still bowed over and snapped! Starting falling around 2am, and by 10AM they were falling everywhere in rapid succession.

I really don't want to live through that again.

We are as prepared as we can be.

Glad you made it home before the mess started. It looks like it's going to start getting worse there later tonight and into the morning. The sleet/ice line is right on the edge of Dallas and maybe it'll move a little more north and you guys won't get it to bad.
Thank you for updating the weather reports and ALL of you guys looking out for me.
I took this after I got home.
Looking North toward the river.

Btw, the freezing rain is coming down at this time. Again. Thank you everybody for looking out for me.

"Show Me The Way"...on your brand new Wolfbox camera...excellent choice.
Thanks Chris - it never really dawned on me that the song made that much sense, given the driving conditions. If I had waited until a fresh snowfall, I would have been making fresh tracks - even cooler, right?

I really like the new camera - because of my topper, I’ve never had a good view out back. Now, it’s wide open - no headrests, C Pillar, defrost lines, nothing.

And then, there’s all the fun with the cameras. Can’t wait to get a chance to cobble some drone footage with Wolfbox footage. After all, retirement shout be fun!

We’re a bit north of that system but it is still impacting us. Here’s a posting from the county where my cottage is. Keep in mind, this is a snow belt where they go out in any conditions.

Predicting 6 tonight from the lake and 16 to 24 Sunday thru Tuesday. A good old fashioned snow storm that the Ranger won't move in and will be fun to clean up. Very cold windchills for the next week also. I feel sorry for the poor souls in the South that could get an inch of ice. Stay safe if you're in this storms path.

I don't know how you guys live up that way by looking at these numbers. But I guess the same can be said about us living in the desert. lol :tumbleweed:

I was use to it when younger but now I just can't handle the cold. Even in the short time living back here I can feel a huge difference in the way my body feels. The cold makes me achey and feel lethargic and when we were in AR last winter I would sleep a lot more hours and nap just about every day. It's the total opposite here. I'm back to needing less sleep, feel way more energetic and haven't napped at all in the 3 months we've been here.

...But it's a dry cold...

Living in the Northern boarder states in January is just like living in the Southern boarder states in July; you scurry from one climate controlled building to the next and don't spend too much time out side.
