You're taking me back to some awesome memories. I was a geology lab tech in college and spent a lot of time Big Bend with my FJ40 - such a pretty place.

It's been over 30 years now but still vivid. =)

What a fortunate place to study. There is magic to that place.

Especially when the mayor of boquillas de Carmen and his family are making and selling tacos just across the river. Even when it’s crowded it’s hard to call it that. You’re fortunate to live so close to heaven.

Oregon Coast is pretty hard to beat! Spent many a years along there.

As a former Texan now in DC I love seeing the looks on peoples face it when I try to describe Big Bend, Terlingua and Lajitas.

You better go soon.....A LOT of development has already been occurring close to Big Bend. It's only a matter of time before it changes radically out there. It is still a very remote area....

One of the few places in the US where you can see the Milky Way and other constellations easily because of the dark....no city lights at all!

napier sportz. It’s been handy. Unloading the bed to set it up gets old.

Great photos indeed! That is my complaint on setup for my bed tent too. I’ve got a mattress that fits the bed, but have buyers remorse on that. When staying at a site for a few days it’s much easier to have a standard tent. Also throw in the fact that a lot of these dirt/gravel roads practically mandate a tonneau cover to keep your gear moderately clean, and then having to put it on/off at the site sucks. I wish I had just bought a quick setup tent or stuck with any of the standard camping ones I had.

if you haven’t, check out the tailgate seal kits. Huge difference there in terms of dust ingress.

Brewster county is nearly larger than Delaware but last time I was there in 2005 its population was barely 5000 people. Its in the Chihuanan desert . All kalichi, sage brush, havalenas, brutally hot and cold, no water or electricity. Amazingly beautiful but hard to imaging subdivisions being built.

yes its an amazing place. saw my first ufo, hog pack and sul ross university cheerleader sans attire all at big bend. a magic place !

Next time you're in the area stop by Marfa. Stop at the rest stop at night and check out the "Marfa lights" phenomenon. Marfa prides itself on being an art mecca. There is a weird Prada display. It looks like a small store front in the middle of nowhere.

yes ive been to marfa a couple times. i liked it a lot in the pre artsy fartsy phase. saw the lights two nights in row. first night they went on all night. blew my mind.

There was show about Terlingua called Badlands, Texas. I think it was meant to show life there but a murder happened right before they filmed. The few residents didn't want to highlight the murder, but that gets viewer numbers. Not sure how real the show is. The murder did happen in 2014 though.
