Stock ‘21 STX preformed very well in the sand at Cape Hatteras NS.
go to NPS.gov pick state- NC then scroll down to Cape Hatteras NS then there is a section on beach driving. Permit required. A 10 day permit (10 consecutive days) is 50 bucks. A annual pass is $120. And it good for a full year of unlimited visits.
looks like a good amount of open beach and more after the sea turtles hatch (off season) and I would think less traffic then too.
I went down the northern most area by Oregon Inlet, plan to hit other areas in the future.
Also looks like some night driving in the off season witch might be good for full moons and start gazing, will look into trying that on day too.
my first 4x4 and it looks like a good new hobby?

There were plenty of trucks out there of all sizes, makes and models. We just got lucky and found a nice stretch with no one there.

Nice looking truck. It looks as though your passenger was enjoying the ocean and the ride.

Thanks for your service.

Went south of Salvo NC this time. I have figured out if you travel further down the beach you can find space to stretch out and have some piece and quite. Seams most folks rather stay close to the access ramps and those areas start to look like a parking lot.
I did see one guy in a Jeep leaving. It took him 4 tries to get up over the sand dune.
this stretch was just over 2 miles. Entered at ramp 25 and exited at 27.

Looks amazing. I’ve heard that’s some of the best fishing on the East Coast.
I’m not much of a fisherman but I see a lot of them out there and yes I have heard it is good fishing and even better down closer to Hatteras.

I'm headed down for 11 days in August. We normally go in September and stay in Waves for at least a week every year, but went with a condo in Avon this time. The pull offs between Salvo and Avon are usually less crowded and look like good spots to drive on. Ocracoke is perfect also if you get that far south. I've been down there 10+ times before (have only stayed north of OI once) but have never driven on the beach but plan on getting my permit and giving it a go this year. I bought everything I think I need for permits already.

We're in Avon for 7 days and then headed south to Atlantic Beach for 4 nights. I've never been below OBX and have been curious as to some of the other beach areas. My schedule with my kids works out (single dad) that I have them another several days after our week in Avon, so I figured I'd extend the vactaion by a few days. We are going to check out the Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle area and we're definitely going to check out Capt Lookout Park for a day trip (looks amazing). I can ferry the truck over and drive on there, but for that day, I think I'm leaning towards renting an ATV for 8 hours.

My kids and I love beach combing...shells, sand dollars, sea glass, etc.. Miles and miles of amazing beaches down there. Definitely looking forward to that trip.
