I thought about that but it's to costly and would raise the price of the damper to much then no one would buy one. This way for those who are impatient waiting for it to drop they can have this mod as an option. ?

Why not do some genetic engineering so that your damper farm crops incorporate a cooling system?

That's way over my pay grade. You want a job Al? This will force you to get a damper because you'll be in charge of testing. ?

it's for airflow. no way ford spent that much on something that nobody can see just for looks--this is a company too cheap to include a pencil tray and two tie downs...
But that's what they're for! You can either carry pencils in them or use them as anchor points for tie down straps. Absolutely brilliant multifunction engineering!

Since the dampers are geologically developed through earth forces of heat, pressure and time, it would not be possible for a genetic mod however, if you can develop a coal fired crystal manufacturing press using 3d metal printing, you might be able to get in on Dave's grant funding...:inspect:

I was cleaning up my 2020 Ranger and noticed these openings in each end of the front bumper beside the fog light (pic). The purpose of the opening has me puzzled. Is it to lighten the bumper? To direct a stream of air over the tire? To reduce wind resistance? Aesthetics?

The openings collect dirt and sand in the winter, but I don't think that's their purpose.

Any ideas why they are there?

To fill up with mud when you offroad it haha. At least that's what I've discovered

shit, this is getting really high tech.

i was originally thinking a simple NOS injection system would suffice

Hi RP,

Not a drag racer (sorry Doc). Did support a bracket car that always hooked right out of the box. Found the problem. Car next to us when we Cobbled a fix for a rear axle shock problem with how it was welded into the chassis was using a torch on their NOS system....Illegal at the track, but wow...did this Ford make it down the track.... Since we were in a different class, and it was cold outside...guy stuffs the torch in my coat and says "be cool". So I was "cool back to the paddock. His owner's car won its class. My friend finished runner up in his class which was huge improvement for him with this tube frame Vette.

Sold the car and now piloting a rear engine rail... Worked on this car a bit too....Way over the top for me in most areas but I still helped straighten out the chassis. Laws of physics still apply. This is a 5 second car... super fast.... Dial in was 5.45.

it only adds aerodynamic advantages when a tailgate damper is installed. makes it go faster.
if you dont have a tailgate damper, the wind just knows it's suppose to bypass this area. it's all in the programmed logic of the onboard density altitude comparator.
Silly me, and here I thought they were there just to make it harder to clean the bumper. But, now I'm glad to know that damper is safe from over heating. ;) :)

The poor OP thinks we are a bunch of loons, Ha Ha.
Better to learn early on than invest a lot of effort and then "Wait, what's this?"

As far as the "port", reality is likely closer to...

"We have these foglights on the shelf that will fit the new Ranger bumper just OK, but they will leave a gap on the sides"

Isn’t it to deflect the tailgate cable from the damper?

I wondered about this, too, and figured that it was done deliberately to move air through, whereas sealing it off would have built up resistance by trapping air in the pocket.
