Meh, the performance potential of EVs intrigues me. But I'm not buying yet. Lots of stuff to be fugured out first.

Also, a question to you folks cashing in on these tax credits. How do you sleep at night knowing you've stolen from everybody just to buy your new toy?

Nothing against you personally Doug but I really hate when people say things like this. If the rules (laws) are there and they're LEGAL then don't hate the player hate the game. I have no problem taking these (or any) deductions and take full advantage of them. I bought solar for my house and received over $6K for it. I take a home office deduction as I use a room for one and I also buy a new truck every 3 years and write that off fully.

Do you not take a mortgage deduction or one for the kids? Same thing but different items and someone else is always paying for them. Only way around this is take away ALL deductions.

What's a better Green statement than a 9,000lb Hummer that takes 5 days to charge...

I'm down to take them all away. If we must have an income tax a flat tax is the only way to tax the differing people of our nation fairly. Currently, by percentage of income, the middle class is bearing the majority of the weight of the nation's tax burden.

As far as mortgage interest is concerned that was fixed a couple years back. Standard deduction for me now that the tax code was corrected. And what's wrong with a deduction for children? Are they not a person? It costs money to provide basic necessities for them as well. The only thing I deduct from our taxes is the 4 people living in our house. Although, if you know how to get a SSN for the dog's and cat it might be worth a try.

Not a dig at you, I can't blame somebody too much for taking what's available to them. But the "green" subsidies are the worst.

Those that push these also love to virtue signal about how much they care for poor folks and the middle class. But to take advantage of them you really need to be on the high end of middle class or rich. So now we're in a situation where the guy who is driving his 15 year old Chevy to work nights at the plant everyday and struggling to pay his energy bills is helping to pay for his manager's solar panels and new Tesla.

Again, I know you're just looking out for yourself. And who am I to say it's "wrong" for anybody to do so? My comment was only meant to cause people to think about it for a second.

As a small business owner I'm sure you know this better than I. But, our system is way too convoluted and filled with loopholes AND advantages for those who know how to use them. It shouldn't be that way. Can't see it getting better anytime soon though with 80k new armed IRS agents on the way.

I'm not hating the player per se. Merely trying to warn them that they might be the shill in this shell game.

When I get get 300+ mile range year round and recharge to that range in under 10 minutes year round I'll consider an EV.
That an a guarantee that the battery will be 80% effective at 200K miles.

As well as I do knowing that our government is sending hundreds of billions of OUR dollars to foreign countries. And I just signed up for health insurance on HealthCare.gov. The comfort and elated feelings I get knowing that I'm medically covered severely overshadows any modicum of guilt about the $1,022 per month tax credit I get to pay for it.

I do agree the system is full of loopholes but take a look at the ones who are making these rules. A bunch of damn politicians who most are lawyers and oddly the same ones who are complaining about a certain "someone" not showing his tax returns. Funny because THEY make the laws. The average person doesn't understand half of these, heck I don't claim to either it's just I've learned a lot after 36 years in business and having a great accountant.

The mortgage deduction I didn't know they changed as I haven't had one in years. As far as kids go well seeing as I never had them I guess I don't see why you should. No ones telling you to have them and why should I have to pay for them. See, it works both ways. ?

Billions of dollars worth of vehicles are stolen in the US annually. I guess you'd be cool with somebody stealing your Ranger?

Sounds like you've fully bought into to the "you will own nothing and like it" ideal that your overlords are pushing. Have fun with that.

It's like learning how to play Hearts from your cousin at your grandparent's house. Somehow they always win.

They didn't get rid of it. But when they upped the standard deduction they made it to where you can't do the standard AND deduct your mortgage interest. You have to itemize if you want to deduct it. For any normal person with a decent APR it's useless.

Also, I knew the damper game was strong, but now you're just bragging.

The deduction for a child is not much. Only $2k, ⅕ the standard individual deduction. Children benefit the nation. Without them we'd be a country full of old dudes with cool toys on our death bed in a couple of decades. Besides, when I was childless I bitched more about my property taxes going to schools as that is much more costly.

Speaking of these two subjects together, looking to adopt a son and grandkids? You gotta leave that sweet 6G RRaptor and gun collection to somebody!

No full EV for me. I'm not opposed to a hybrid, though. Best of both worlds at the moment. BYOG (Bring Your Own Generator) is the way to go for now.

Or the covid-19 incentive checks and the additional payments given out for those with kids. Not to make the thread political but all forms of energy and many forms of agriculture are subsidized, the original farm bill enacted in 1933 was 24 pages long, it is now over 1,000 pages and covers a whole bunch of stuff other than agriculture such as ethanol production , I know several people who are able to take significant tax deductions on their property by allowing a small no. of cattle which they don't own graze on the property . Thje estimated cost of agriculture subsidies is $20B annually, the last farm bill which expires this year $ 428B over 5 yrs. This stuff just keeps growing.

Yep, and while it may have taken a few more decades than they thought they've virtually accomplished their goals. The family farm/ranch is all but gone and people like Bill Gates are buying up all the farm property they can.

Getting hungry now talking about food. Anybody try that new soylent green stuff?

you nailed it - the original farm bill did some great things to promote agriculture and ensure a dependable food supply for all of us, but the bill today is a far cry from 1933 , but farm lobbyists only spent $125m lobbying, barely making the top 10 , it interesting to see what sector spends the most:

Interesting, yes.

Surprising? No. Anybody who's dealt with our medical system knows it's all a scam.
