I have been on a 1/2 dozen cruises, my favorite was the Alaskan cruise (senery was spectacular). My wife liked it but it was not her favorite, even though we did it in August you needed a jacket when outside, to her a cruise means sunning your self by the pool. Our first cruise was with an inside cabin, even though you don't spend much time in the cabin I didn't like it and have had a window or balcony on the rest. I have done excursions on my own and through the ship, when done through the ship you don't have to worry about being left behind, the bus broke down in Jamaica on one cruise and we didn't get back until 1/2 an hour after the ship was scheduled to leave and it was waiting for us.

When we cruise we ALWAYS get a balcony room. Its nice to be able to have quiet and get away from others. You can have room service and joy breakfast out there. Even if it’s an obstructed view because of the life boats the balcony is worth it. We once had a room at the end of the boat, extra long patio space.

When you check in on shore ask for upgrade. The ones that don’t sell may be at a lower cost for you. Always ask.

I just think of the Covid times when people had to stay in their room On a cruise ship. I would have gone crazy locked up in a interior room.

Anyone ever gone on a cruise before?

We're leaving for a 5 day cruise going to costa maya and cozumel in late may and I've never done such a thing. We're going with royal Caribbean in an interior room with a virtual balcony whatever that means.
I never have--not my style--but since you bought the insurance, oops, I mean, the drink package, you can always enjoy a cold one by the ocean. How bad could it be?

I've been on about 10 cruises, mostly Carnival, but also Holland America. Here's a few secrets, which may or may not apply to RC:
- get there early 1st day. They say embarkation is at 1, but you can usually get on around 11, grab lunch, and explore the ship.
- order more than 1 entree at dinner, so you can try different things. With Carnival, you can get one of everything if you want. Same with dessert. Don't hold back.
- the blue ocean water is gorgeous. Sit somewhere you can watch it go by. You usually see flying fish, and maybe a whale.
- if there's something you really want to do on board, stay aboard on shore days, so you can do it while everyone is off the ship. i got to where I didn't even leave the ship. The peace and quiet was nice on shore days.

My fave: wanna be that guy - start pointing at something in the middle of the ocean, and watch 100 people come over to look and start pointing, while some will say they "see it". Then slip quietly away. Better done while under the influence.

Never been. not really my thing, but one up the BC coast to Alaska might be something I could convince myself to try at some point.
With the super fast spread of any sickness on them, even after a deep clean from a previous plague, it makes me less interested. You;d find me on deck 24/7 inhaling fresher air to avoid getting sick.
I did have a friend take his wife on a cruise for an anniversary. He was naive and clueless. He didnt know what he booked. It was one of those upside down pineapple cruises. ?

I've heard that an on board restaurant called Johnny rockets is a must try. Hopefully the voyager of the seas has one.
I have eaten at a Johnny Rockets, altho not on a cruise ship. They are just like In-and-Out, Five Guys, Smash Burger, and one or two others of that ilk. Decent food but way over rated and over hyped IMHO

We have them here and there in AZ, but I admit to liking Five Guys better.

I say the same about In-N-Out. Not a fan at all.

That's an outstanding way to utilize your cruise time, it can also be accomplished on land as in visiting Yellowstone, just stop your vehicle and point out the window and create a personal traffic jam. I well remember the lady at glacier gleefully pointing out the "longhorn sheep" she spotted on the trail. On cruises met a number of people that cruise regularily, buy low cost cabins and spend much of their time waiting for the next meal.

People who say, never been not my thing, have never been so haven't experienced the fun of leaving all responsibilty behind and just enjoy the ride. You don't worry about driving or when you have to be there, all the while just throwing them back on the alcohol package.
People getting seasick, all they have to do is go out to shipside and take in the horizon. The people vomiting all over the place and never looking up at the horizon is stupid. You need a solid reference to the horizon, goes the same on a plane.
There are a lot of ship-only supposed one-of-kind sales offers. From art exhibits to shoe orthodics. Make wise choices.
