I just hate Lariat chrome, and I like the base sound system is better than the B&O sound system. Leather seats have proven to be problematic if you got that option.

So that was it and why I stuck to XLT. To me, Lariats were vastly overpriced for options that were not any good.

If you asked me, the LED headlights are the actual ONLY good thing the lariat had going for it.
You are either deaf or not truly listened to the b and o system. Not perfect but pretty darn good.

I think you need to research the car audio credentials of @Zaph before implying he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Says the person who lives in a warm climate. You should park your truck in a meat freezer overnight then see how you feel about it.
I've survived Chicago and Pittsburgh winters with leather in the days before heated seats. And I've been through Phoenix summers with vinyl and leather. Now THAT almost had me reconsidering.

I love the cold. I just don't particularly car to drive in the snow and ice. The only thing about the cold that ever bothered me was my hands. Whoever it was that came up with the heated steering whell...well that dude deserves a friggin' Nobel prize.

He is entittled to his opinion, I am entittled to mine. The only benefit to me of the xlt stereo is it is easier to upgrade. The B and O has a weak sub, high frequency clarity somewhat lacking and is diffcult to upgrade. That said its not a bad sound system and way better than my last 3 Mustang GT premiums Mach 500 sound systems or JBL in Toyota. Along with all the Lariat extras my choice.

And whoever it was at Ford that had the idea of having heated seats but no heated steering wheel (Ranger and Bronco) is a complete moron.

I did get to hear the B&O system. Initially, to be clear, I wanted the 301a system because it didn't come with that poorly designed subwoofer. After listening, as far as the other drivers, the B&O tweeters are an improvement over the base system. But: The 301a tweeter is easily swapped out for something better.

The B&O system sounds decent at low volume but the subwoofer has built in level compression as the level increases even slightly - and the range of about 50hz to 120hz compresses long before the other ranges. It does this by design because the subwoofer is too small for the rest of the system. It's called non-linear frequency compression. Basically as you turn it up the bass goes away and the system begins to have a glaring midrange heavy sound.

Summary: if you are a person that listens at low levels the Bang & Olufsen system may be good for you.

I hate to point out flaws, particularly to people that may be happy with the system. It's just not for me.

Edit: Todd you're right: B&O system difficult to upgrade. You basically have to have an outboard signal processing unit to undo everything the B&O system does.

Yes you can have one if you select it. With a 10 speed automatic, how often do you really look at the tach? This isnt a 5.0 with a manual 6 speed.

I love the lariat dash. I still have a useful nav screen right above my sterring wheel while my 9" display is on audio.
Actually, I monitor the tach a lot when towing. It is useful to anticipate shift points in different terrains allowing for minor adjustments to speed to increase MPG.
The one thing that I find annoying is that the gear indicator is not always on... why???

One annoying thing with my Lariat is when I stomp on it, the sound of a 500 hp V8 is pumped over the sound system ?. Puts a big smile on my grandsons face and really impresses him ?. Still sounds like a sewing machine motor to those on the outside. Wish there was a way to turn it off. Not sure if the Xlt has that.

True, but you discounted his opinion because it differs from yours.

Zaph has posted many comments on car audio with detailed technical specifications and measurements, so his opinion is more than just a subjective "It sounds better."

Not trying to be combative, just mentioning the discrepancy.

Amateur musician I am, audiophile I am not. The point is do not disparage anothers opinion that has the b and o and thinks its an upgrade from the basic stereo. I think other Lariat owners will agree.

I wanted an XL with the 101A package, but Ford has that package on hold for the 2023. So I went with the XLT base package.

I chose the lariat over the xlt because
1. It was available
2. The price was right
3. Led headlights (the halogens in my 19 f150 were terrible)
4. Leather, it doesn't hold saw dust the way cloth does, and I'm typically quite dusty after work.
5. The boss lady liked it (should probably be #1)

With that being said there are things I liked better about xlt, the instrument cluster and the grille.

Either way I think you will love whichever truck you decide upon!

Do not like leather seats and the dash leaves much to be desired. No regrets getting an xlt.
