Took the wife’s truck to the dealership today to have them check out the driveshaft bearing. Last time they said they couldn’t replicate the issue so this time I had a service advisor take a ride with me. He heard the squealing and said they’d handle it, the truck should be done by the end of the day.

4 hours later, they called and said it’s definitely the driveshaft carrier BUT they couldn’t find the warranty info for the truck, so they were going to give us a quote for the repair. We told them no, the truck is well within warranty and this issue has been going on since we bought it about a year ago. After some searching, they ended up finding the warranty info. They called us again and said they need approval from corporate before they can do anything because the repair might not be covered. They’ll let us know on Tuesday.

I told the service advisor that we brought this truck to them for transmission work 6ish months ago. They started working on it that day, it was hassle free and no headaches. Why were they able to fix the transmission, no questions asked, but they need corporate approval to replace a driveshaft bearing? He said that’s just how they do things…

When I originally called two weeks ago to schedule this appointment, I was told it would be handled no problem and the repair should be done by the end of the day. I was told the same thing this morning when we dropped the truck off. Apparently that’s not the case… It went from “we got you” to “you might be eating the cost for this repair.” Needless to say, the wife and I are pretty irritated.

I think its going to boil down to the (In service date) - that's the date the warranty starts and they sometimes create issues (Is the driveshaft considered part of - Powertrain?) yes for driveshaft BUT carrier bearing no (this will be the warranty department decision)

So 2 possible issues for denying warranty - Good Luck, actually if i recall - Oasis will deny (carrier) but approve (driveshaft) - as at one point it was a complete assembly vs separate part availability - so you may try that route (if hitting roadblock)

According to my wife, the extended warranty we’re paying for is a bumper-to-bumper warranty. It’s not limited to just the powertrain. I was with her when she bought the truck but don’t remember what warranty we went with. She bought it before we got married so everything is in her name, I’m just making the payments on it since she stopped working when we found out she was pregnant with little peanut. All I know is it’s an extended warranty up to 100k miles from the time we bought the truck.

Then Extended (eliminates) the issues -(It should) anyways
Yes and if it’s not a Ford warranty then I can see the dealer possibly having issues either contacting the 3rd party warranty or getting answers from them. In that case it’s not the dealers or Fords fault.

It’s a third party warranty. It’s through the dealership where we bought the truck used. What trips me up is why the transmission was handled, no questions asked, but they’re making a big deal about the driveshaft carrier which costs nothing compared to rebuilding a transmission.

I’ve always felt that third parties should be avoided because they have no skin in the game. It’s a simple yes/no decision for them. No goodwill, no Ford Customer Care team input, no consideration for long-time customers, nothing.

These are insurance companies and if there’s a way out of it, they take it. They have no reputation to protect, no brand to worry about. Besides, they are obligated to maximize profits and look after the best interests of their shareholders, not the policy holders.

Yep, it sucks but in this case, it’s not the dealership.

Amazing statistics, . , those aged 55 and up less inclined to buy them, , I see one of my least favorite sports pundits Stephen a Smith plugging car shield as a "championship level defense against costly car repairs" such drivel. I am abashed to admit i did purchase one on the Ranger driven by fear of a heater box failure, the coverage has expired, lesson learned and I'm $750 less wealthy. Once bitten twice shy , x warranties might work for some, my wife would probably have bought one if I wasn't with her on her subie purchase and ditto for my son where the yota dealer quoted $3k to xtend the warranty on his 2023 tundra purchase. As some have stated put that money into an investment and skip the x warranty. I'd add x warranty to the ever growing list of what people waste money on and ihave absolutely no interest in growing Stephen a smith's bank account.

Everybody always hating on the dealers and the warranty companies because of a "bad" experience...
Well id like to tell you of the time when the dealer was fantastic and went above and beyond and fought for me untill things were made right !
I really would like to tell that story...

I don’t dislike dealerships for no reason. I’ve had several bad experiences in the past, across several different dealerships, with several different vehicles. Sloppy workmanship, incompetent service advisors, mechanics breaking things and denying it, warranties not being honored, issues being “fixed” that were actually made worse, parts being lost that I had to pay for… It’s not like I’ve had one bad experience at one dealership.

In all the times I’ve had to interact with dealerships, there are maybe 3 experiences where I remember being pleased with the outcome and customer service. Last time with my wife’s transmission was one of them, which is why we brought it back to them for the driveshaft carrier. If they won’t honor the warranty (3rd party or not) I’ll do it myself. I hoped this time would be as easy as getting her transmission repaired but clearly, that was wishful thinking.

Am I correct that you didn't buy the truck where your trans and now driveshaft bearing are getting repaired? Just curious.
