I wonder if one of those bump step type doohickies would have prevented so much damage.

Ferd got rear ended at a stop light....

as far as I can gather, the clown was stopped behind me, then accelerated into said stationary object from perhaps a 4' run when the peripheral traffic started moving.

post your guestimate (hint, an entire OEM tailgate and aftermarket hitch included)

sorry misfit - initial written cost estimate before any disassembly

It's incidents like this that I bought the superbumper when I had my Ranger. It is now on the rear of my Explorer.

I keep my 2" ball in the receiver. That way if someone does the same to me, I'll take out their radiator and A/C condenser before they touch my bumper.

having a 2" ball mount in the receiver would have just made a bigger hole in the already wounded radiator and not stopped the rest of the other vehicle from making contact with my bumper.

ever see the Bill Dance fishing show where he dances around after he hits his shin on one of those? :explode:

I did an air grab @ $9K.
Two yrs ago my daughter air headed and rear ended someone in the very nice 2016 Cherokee we gave her used. $12.6K. Radiator, condenser, hood/ radiator support, all front end pretty parts + hood. Just under the 70% total loss limit from Nationwide. But they wanted to scrap it anyway.
I actually got hold of the total loss adjuster. I pointed out she missed the tow pkg and Active Drive II Pkg. (low range Xfer case & off road suspension). That tipped the calc and she repaired the car. It was otherwise pristine. No way my daughter could have found a used car that nice for $18+K.
Nationwide dumped her shortly after. ....the best lessons come with a bit of pain.
