I had the Amp Research Power Steps installed on my wife's 2019 XLT Crew Cab Ranger about 2 weeks ago. Much to my surprise, she had one complaint.

We live in Florida and that means we're in shorts 364 days a year. On the 365th day, we have a hurricane. Nonetheless, her complaint was that when the doors are open and the steps deployed, while loading packages in the back seat, the rough edge of the step rubs your leg.

Not to worry there is a solution for this that is available through Amp Research.

If you've ever looked at the OEM power steps on an F-Series, there is a polished strip on that same edge making the edge smooth.

Amp research offers this same strip in brushed stainless steel that mechanically clips into the 2 channels that are part of the step. No fasteners or 3M tape is required.

If you look on their website, this product isn't offered for the 2019-21 Ranger steps. Nonetheless, I gave them a call and they do offer this same strip for another application that is 79" long and can be trimmed down to 72" for the crew cab or 65" for super cabs. Installation is very simple. Part # is 75149-01A and is available through several vendors. I chose a vendor which offered free shipping and they should arrive next week.

So as long as you can live with the appearance this is a viable solution for this problem.

I just installed these as well. I have not not noticed that YET, but bet I will this weekend! ?
But that is a great solution! Thanks for the tip.
I may look into getting those and having them power coated black.

My wife likes them polished just like those on her 2019 F150 Platinum so these will stay polished. I will post pictures after they arrive and are installed.

PS: I purchased mine from CARiD with free shipping

If I had more (any!) chrome I would stay polished, always a shame to cover up stainless steel! Only thing still shiny on my truck are the lug nuts and the mudflap plates. Maybe I will see how they look before coating. Can you post some picks stowed and deployed?

By the way I don't know about you but I love these freakin things! And truck looks so much better without steps sticking out the side!

I went ahead and pulled the trigger. My wife has not noticed the rough edge (luckily!!) but I have. I typically turn them off as its easier to get in and out for me w/o steps. But 2x this weekend my wife was coming with me so I reached in and turned the override off, and the step deployed. Well, I was standing by the truck in the open door. In the way of the step, and scrape - right down the shin!
I will put the on silver to start, if it looks OK on they will stay. Otherwise off to get powder coated. Hopefully the thickness change wont create issues. But I jump ahead, maybe I wont mind he shiny side!

The Amp Research Running Board Trim Strips arrived yesterday via UPS and I was able to install them this morning. I am pleased to report they were packaged very well and arrived in perfect condition.

I should mention the finish on these is a brushed stainless steel, not chrome. They look very nice.

As previously mentioned these are for another application so they need to be trimmed to the appropriate length. I trimmed them both to 71 7/8" long as the running boards on my Super Crew are 72" long. A couple of things worth mentioning:

If you planning on installing these, I would be absolutely sure you like the looks of them BEFORE you install them. They fit snugly in the channels of the step and as they are slid into the channel, they scuff the black powder coat on the outer edge of the step. This is not an issue once the trim strips are installed as you never see that part of the step. However, removing them to go back to black isn't an option.

If you're running oversize wheels and tires, before you start the job, check to make sure you won't need to remove a wheel/tire to be able to slide them in the channels. I have 20"x9" w/+12mm offset wheels with Toyo Open County AT III LT285/55R20 tires and the strips just cleared the rear tires as I was installing them. I was able to install them from the rear without removing a wheel/tire. Had the tires been any wider or the wheels had any more negative offset (poke), I would have had to remove a wheel/tire to install them.

I am very pleased with the result. I think they look great and best of all the wife is happy.

Thanks Todd!
That does look good! I think I will be happy with them as is, no need to black out. And mine arrive today!
Arrived today!
Packaged really well is an understatement! The Aluminum tube is probably 1/2 the cost. Although the 10x10inch x 6-7ft box was a joke. pretty much totally open. The UPS driver stopped and asked me to check it and make sure everything was still in there! Now that's service!
As soon as I finish work I will get the hack saw out and start the install!

Done!
Pictures look just like Todd's
Looks great and easy to install.
Powder coating is NOT an option as there is not enough clearance in the channels. The protective plastic was too thick and had to be removed before sliding into the channel.

I have 2 ~ 6inch leftovers. If anyone would like to see how these look, msg me and I will send you one.

Thanks for posting this Todd!
And to those that don't have power steps - get them!
