So I have seen very little in terms of actual consumer commentary on the Airaid intake for the Ranger 5g. So here's my opinion and request for some feedback...

IT SUCKS.

The manufacturing is terrible:
- The screw holes don't line up at the base with the factory screw holes
- There are no rubber grommets/dampers when remounting to the truck
- The screw holes for the lid on the unit itself don't even line up
- When tightly screwed on there is still a rather large gap (~1/8") on at least 3 sides of the lid
- The scoop has a lip on it where the plastic was molded and not completely cut off
- Difficult to reach the left screw for the scoop due to the over-molded plastic

I got it for $300 on a deal on Amazon and my cheap ass said "SURE!". Regretting it. Should have gone Mishimoto...

Now - Questions:
- My performance has SERIOUSLY dipped. (Yes - I disconnected negative terminal while installing). It seems to have affected the shifting (slightly smoother?) and it doesn't have near the "get up and go" that it used to. This was the only modification made to the truck. It almost feels like it's getting TOO MUCH air now.. if that makes sense.
- I hear what I am assuming is the turbo now? It sounds like a small motor in the engine compartment. I never heard this sound prior to the install.

I made sure to clean all components prior to install in as a precaution of any particulates getting sucked in to the turbo.

Anyone else have this same experience with their CAI?

Airaid is a subsidiary of K&N. The manufacturing of my K&N Aircharger intake (the first gen) was horrible too. Spent hours doing finishing work to it to bring it up to acceptable standards. I love it now, but it was a pain compared to fit and finish of a Mishimoto product.

With most “cold air” or high flow intakes you will hear a lot more turbo noises. I ran a green filter with lidless air box in the focus st for 100k miles and I really wish I hadn’t because after seeing other turbos on the focus forum I really believe these high speed turbos need finer filtration than the cotton and oiled filters can supply.
Race style filters are pretty much for engines that need absolute max airflow at the cost of longevity.

As soon as I would see holes not lining up, I would have returned it.
