Just a thought:

Years ago, I bought fancy valve covers from FORD with a tiny Ford emblem in each one, for my Explorer.
A few months later, you couldn't get them off!!
Dissimilar metals? Aluminum? Salt crud from New England winters?
Maybe I should have put a dab of never-seize on first?
I don't know.
Had to replace the stems.

Been happy with plastic caps since.

This often happens when dissimilar materials are mated and exposed to the elements. Oxidation over time will ‘weld’ them together. As you surmised a thin coating of dielectric type grease will mitigate this. Only to a point though. Still needs occasional attention so it doesn’t get started

i suspect his friends found them first
Can you imagine the poor tire guys at Discount having to air up your tires...

Get green caps so everyone knows you're a sucker and bought into the nitrogen thing.
Mine has like 78% nitrogen + other gases... all.... compressed!! in my tires. I need slightly off green caps.

Dissimilar metals are fun to deal with when they seize up. I have had to beat aluminum rims from vehicles due to people not rotating there tires enough and never coating the rims with anti seize where they contact the steal hubs.

I have personally seen the metal caps cause the valve to leak.
Over a period of time the little "O" ring that comes with many of them can break down, and pieces can get into the valve pushing down on the "plunger", causing a leak. Or the "O" ring deforms and when screwed down pushes down on the plunger.
Stick with the simple plastic caps.....buy a few dozen of em on Amazon for a few bucks and change em every year or two.
Also, buy a valve removal/install tool, 2-3 bucks, and check the stems every year...make sure their snugged down. Lots of times thats the reason for the "slow leak" that no one can find.
