Hey everyone, wanted to share something I should've been more aware of. I bought some car air freshener pods from bath and body works. The "pod" of scent leaked out and down, taking the silver dashboard paint right off. It looks pretty bad now.

Secondly, I'd like to replace the effected piece, it's the dash trim by the glove box that has R A N G E R stamped on it. I think the part # is 04338E. Can anyone confirm?

Honestly, I would try fixing the part you have, up to the point where the part is unsalvagable, before buying a new one.

Ideas:

Vinyl is easier to apply than you think, 2-3 attempts and you'll get the hang of it. Soapy water is key, watch some videos, you can do it. You can get a roll of vinyl for like $10 and try until you get it right.

Personally I would rattlecan the thing. Get some 400-800 grit sandpaper, scuff it up/get all the flaky old stuff off, prime it with a sandable primer, (I'd personally bondo the RANGER branding but to each their own) and build up your light coats of color (whatever color you want.) Finish with a clear of your prefered sheen. I think stock is a "satin" finish but I tend to matte everything. Would cost maybe $30 if you don't have any equipment/supplies.

That actually sounds good. I would want to make it look as close to factory as possible so I will try to find the right silver paint. Would be worth experimenting with.

You can probably fine the correct spray paint at an auto body paint supplier. I found some when i had to fix a chipped dash on a Mustang.

I'd take it to a vinyl specialist and have them wrap the portions of the dash that are damaged or match the damaged section. It should be a fairly inexpensive and easy job for a professional to handle. The cool bonus is you could pick a custom color and finish that you really like!

A reminder that the aroma of those, gets to you by way of a volatile compound. Most compounds that evaporate quickly tend to also be great solvents for paints and plastics.

You're breathing that in in a confined space.

Won't need air fresheners in a new truck if you stop smoking the wacky weed..

Very! They only had a few questions, asked if I knew how much it would cost to fix and that was it! Very happy with their response.
May want to consider the fact that as stated above that is a solvent and most likely flammable. Not a good thing to have on interior of a vehicle

Yes, I'm all done with those air fresheners. Too risky.
