Well took the ranger in this morning 7:30am, get a call now at 2:15pm. ANYTHING AFTERMARKET voids your warranty. I had issue with no heat, I installed aftermarket radio earlier this year. There’s a notice and bulletins about the hvac system but I have to reinstall the stock radio. I’m so beyond pissed right now. It’s worked fine and I’m positive the radio has nothing to do with it.

Sorry to hear that. However, the burden of proof is on the dealer to show that the aftermarket part was the reason for the issue per the Federal Trade Commission. Have a look here - https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance#:~:text=Simply using an aftermarket or,an aftermarket or recycled part.

I managed quite a few dealerships and have seen service departments try and pull this stunt. Unless they can prove that the aftermarket part is the cause for the problem, warranty coverage cannot be denied.

Thank you for the info! Don’t believe I’ll be going back to this place for anything at all again.

I certainly wouldn't. No sense in giving business to dealers that don't value their customers.

But, if you are in a pinch, keep this in your back pocket.

well after further speaking to them it may prove to be an issue regardless of where I go. For the heat not working there's a special bulletin about referencing codes from the factory setup and possible replacement of the system. I figured it out to be the actuator but without the radio and access to codes they said Ford won't pay out the warranty work completed. I'm breaking down and removing the radio to get it fixed and then will again re-install it. Just an added PITA.

Yes I have learned firsthand it is a PITA but sometimes the easier route than arguing about the warranty. I would recommend returning it to stock and then going to a new dealer and playing dumb. Don't even admit it was changed at any point

Yeah, new vehicles have so many of their systems integrated integrated into the infotainment system that when you change anything out it compromises the dealers ability to troubleshoot problems. They cannot be expected to know how every aftermarket component ties into their system. Even though the problem is not caused by the replaced head unit they probably need information that they can only access through the factory setup. Something to think about when moding any of the electronics in any vehicle, everything is connected to everything else. Not like swapping out the radio in an older vehicle.

Be interested to hear if we installing the factory system fixes the heat problem.
Good luck.

Just to make sure for the radio part did you have the big eating screen from sync 3 or did you have the basics Inc from an Excel that has the tiny little 2-inch screen. If you have the tiny inch screen because you have an XL or STX then you should be fine. If you have an XLT or bigger and decided to change the radio out because you didn't like the big fancy screen I feel you are in a bad situation there. In order to pull a DTC all they have to do is connect to the fcim or front control interface module. With that said if you have an XL it should not be a problem since the fcim should not be affected buy an aftermarket radio. That is what sets the DTC for the AC. Also the HVAC box should not be affected by your radio either. That's like saying my lift kit affect the AC performance.
