So did a thing and installed the aFe Rebel CBE today. Wow, too loud for me. Like loud all the time. Now taking it off to re-sell. Jeers to the placement of the stock band bolt at the cat. It had me daisy chaining wrenches to get it loose and no room for a socket.

Are you getting a different exhaust? I personally like the Borla one. Looks a lot thicker at the exhaust tips which will reduce the rattle/drone. And perhaps an overall thicker construction as well. Good looking truck though. Can you also clarify what the STX entails in terms of over a base model or fx4? For some reason I thought STX was 4x2 only, but that's the only kind I have seen I guess.

I might look at another exhaust in a bit. I'll look into the Borla. I like the sound clips I've heard. The aFe feels very quality and similar construction to other 304 stainless exhausts I've bought in the past, I think a larger muffler would be better for me. I was looking for a cheaper supercrew 4x4 so stumbled upon the STX. Basically it is an XL with STX appearance package (lots of black everywhere). This also included STX special wheels, larger touch screen with apple car play. I believe you can get an FX4 with STX package, which I learned here. So I have 4x4 which I need for work almost daily, but no rear locker.

Appreciate the detailed reply! Oh yes, I just checked the product page for the rebel, very cool design but can see it being loud with the small muffler. Beautiful truck, now I know what an STX is hehe. I also have no rear locker but 4x4 like you :fistbump:

Here is a sound clip of 75% throttle with Roush CAI and the Borla exhaust. Very subtle but can def roar when stepped on. Just for extra insight. And a video of it at very low throttle for the drone example. Very slight and not annoying, at least to me. Hope this helps at least in the Borla side of things.

would having the exhaust exit after the rear wheel quiet it down?

I'm guessing that would, but my rebel Exhaust is the one with the Helmholtz resonator so it is basically an open pipe after the cat. I'm gonna add a sound clip now

Awesome! Thanks for the clips. That sounds great. Here is a sound clip of cold startup just after I installed.

No problem. Oh, I really like that sound on cold start. Very similar to the Borla one. I do really like the straight pipe design/open pipe of the AFE.

I must be slow today...just realized the front of the rear wheel exit means no resonator pipe. Seems like everyone says that greatly reduces sound volume. I left it in place an just swapped a Borla SS muffler in place of factory muffler to get rid of that discussed restriction in the muffler. The tone changed but the loudness didn't increase that much.

Kettleman City looks about halfway between San Diego and the bay.

I smell a swap coming.
