Add a leaf install

Anyone done the ready lift add a leaf on their truck? I just ordered it because the sag while towing. Won't mind the extra lift in the rear while not towing either. Just curious if you have any pictures or videos so I can have an idea what I've got in store for me.

Hi Robert,

Do not know anything about Add A Leaf, but does it come with new axle U bolts? If not, do you have good thread engagement with the carryover U bolts? Should have three threads exposed below the nut... That would be my recommendation to check thread engagement...

You'd likely be better served by a weight distribution hitch. Stiffening the rear to remove the sag tends to exacerbate the issue of weight lost over the steering axle with load bearing hitches.

while under weight for towing I would be worried about weight forward. either put it on a scale for tongue weight or load the toys up backwards so the engines are closer to the trailer axles.

as jason tremor pointed out that is a lot of forward weight. My stock Ranger with a 5,000 pound trailer doesn't drop so low.

I have seen Rangers tow cars, heavy cars with less squat.
Remove the leveling kit? I know leveling kits cause these kinds of problems.
Not enough weight on the front wheels, will make for soft steering

They are mid/rear engine, so he has them pointed correctly.

Good point. I'm not sure the kit hasn't come in yet and to be honest haven't investigated it underneath yet.

Not sure but they weigh a little over 1200 lbs each. Most of the weight is that the back of the SxS where the engine is located. The front ones rear tires are just ahead of the first axle. The second barely fits on the trailer so most the weight of it sits behind the axle. Couldn't imagine being more than around 1500 to 2000 lbs tongue weight but I could be wrong. It really doesn't sag as much as it looks since the front has been leveled and truck front was kinda starting up hill in the driveway

I also haul a lot in the bed as well. I put a pallet of rock in there a few weeks ago and really felt that. So I'm looking to improve both situations with one fix.

The drop there is a little misleading since it's already going up hill in the front since my driveway comes down to the basement. It does sag a little but I expected it since yes it has a level kit on it. Didn't notice any soft steering on my 300 mile round trip down rough concrete Kentucky and Tennessee interstates. I do have a redarc tow pro brake controller. It towed fine except for fuel mileage. Cruised around 70 and could hardly notice it was back there. Not bouncy at all even on big potholes and dips in road. Just a little sag. Not as much as I had with the pallet of rocks I hauled the week before in the bed

Ahh, yes the level will make it appear like it's got more weight on it than it does. I think the factory hitch is rated to somewhere around 750lbs tongue weight or so, so you might want to double check that. If those machines are just 1200lbs each, you most likely are in range of being ok and it's just the angle of driveway and leveling kit throwing us off a bit.

Yes sir. I really wanted the add a leaf the week before. I loaded a pallet of rock in the bed to build a fire pit at the house. That's when the sag was really noticeable. I looked it up and the Zforce 800 weight in at 1249 lbs each. It's not the factory hitch either its a 10000 lb rated Drawtite of Curt can't remember which. Just remember weight cause I was like the truck was only rated 7500 so figured it would be fine.

I am no engineer but i do know all the leveling kits and suspension mods cause big changes in handling as created by the engineers. I do this often enough where i need better bump stops and maybe a rear sway bar. No big bumpers and such it all takes away from my payload. Phil would know more about how tires and all change the dynamics of the truck.

A pickup unfortunately to certain degrees cannot be tow and offroad capable. The gladiator is best at that but not best of both worlds.

So maybe airbags?
