I picked up a sport trac bed extender for $30 on Facebook marketplace. I am in the process or widening it to fit my ranger. I could not find striker or pivot bolts with a 6mm thread so I went to menards and started my search for parts. They turned out great and work perfectly. For anyone interested in the parts I used go to www.menards.com and look up the list below for descriptions of each piece.
2x 2012467 screws
2x 2020024 sleeve
2x 2028191 flange bearing
1x 2027544 washers 2 in pack
1x 2028927 washers 3 in pack
1x 2152032 4ft 1 3/8” wood dowel that goes inside the pipe to widen the extender.
I found a piece of 1.5” aluminum that I am widening it with. I will post pics when I’m done

Finished my job up today. I took the bed extender from the sport trac and cut 5.5 inches out of the center rails. Then I cut 3 pieces of aluminum 9.5 inches each. I purchased a 1 3/8” wooden dowel and cut pieces to go inside the bed extender rails and the aluminum. I glued the wood inside the tubes with a good polyurethane glue. After it dried I took the brackets off the bed extender tubes. I had to drill a hole to put the brackets on to cover the cuts. After getting all done the tubes from the bed extender were sticking out too far to shut the tailgate. I cut 1/2 in. Off the ends of the tubes and put it back together. All works good and looks great!

All done. Not as pretty as I'd like, but it'll work just fine. One thing to note, my pivot bolt is an M6, not an M8.

Do you happen to remember where you got that tool box? Is it mounted to the forward facing bed wall? That is exactly what I want for my Ranger.

In Post #31 above the gentlemen describes the hardware he used that he purchased from Menards. However, if you look through the various photos in this thread you will see various approaches.

You have to improvise with hardware to replicate the "studs" that were present on the Sport Trac that will screw into the threaded holes present on the Ranger.

Hi Mark,

There are only two main sized threaded holes to which you must contend with out drilling your own.

6mmx1.0 and 8mmx1.25. bracket fabrication should be relative straight forward if you have the skill set... I recall some thread where it was well though out and executed to make the Sport Trac bed extender fit..

Good luck and keep us posted of what you were able to accomplish.

Best,
Phil
