I have the same issue on my '22 and was told by the dealership "they all have a sensitive throttle". This truck has the most touchy, binary throttle feel of any vehicle I've ever driven, and I'm told this is 100% normal. Some say they have never had this issue - do you typically drive all Fords or have other vehicles to compare to?
Never had a Ford and my last was a Malibu, every vehicle I've had has had a fairly linear throttle where I actually have to press it to go.

This said, the larger at tires have definitely taken a bit of the acceleration away so I'm good with that now. Just wondering about this weird dip in rpm that's still present in 3&4 very noticably

So this is a 2 part issue that I don't know if it's an issue or just normal since I couldn't really find anything in the forum. I did get this used with about 20k miles so I don't have a clue if they did anything with it or not.

First part is the gas pedal is ridiculously sensitive, I barely touch it to maintain speed and usually I'm adjusting foot on / foot off completely to hold speed.

Second part is the "larger" issue that I've just lived with, but in gears 3, 4 & 5 I just a delay or hiccup in RPM as I accelerate. Roughly in the 2,500 - 3,000 rpm range i'll get a drop in rpm of about 100-200 as I'm accelerating before it picks back up and carries on. Repeatable in both normal acceleration and 100% throttle. If I'm going real easy and don't hit 2,500 rpm then I don't experience this hesitation.

Thoughts?
I also experience this "hiccup" under acceleration....It's an up and down feeling at times. Especially from a dead stop as the turbo spools up. When I get in my Acura the differences are very appearant...Smooth acceleration from a dead stop or not. I just accept it on my Ford being a 4 cylc turbo truck.

Are these diy things or but a lot and take to a shop?
The Ford tune is the only one you have (or should have to retain the warranty) a dealer instal. All the other aftermarket tunes are DYI. Doc has the Unleashed tune and I'm running the Livernois tune and both are very good and really make a huge difference in how the truck performs. Not just in overall power but the shifting is much smoother too.

I'm out of factory warranty, is there some other limited warranty on these that I would void? Was thinking of getting the Ford extended so I have all the damn electronics covered

You have to add the extended Ford warranty before the 3/36 is up. The electronics were the only reason I bought my extended warranty. If you ever had a problem they have to prove the tune caused this but they can still deny you and then you'll have to try and fight them over it. 5 star tuning has a warranty you can buy through them and IIRC it's around $1,000.

Honestly if you're running a tune and driving it fairly "normal" day to day and just getting on it every once in a while there's really no reason to worry. The tuners are not designing these to run on the edge of blowing up but of courses anything can happen. Mark @txquailguy has the Livernois tune and has run his very hard (much harder than I have lol) and has had zero problems.

I do not have this touchy throttle issue. My other vehicles have been non-Fords. The gas pedals behave similarly across the different brands I have owned, including my current Ranger and two Subarus.
I think it changes from manufacturer to manufacturer. Subaru and Ford seem to have a "heavy tip-in" which appeals to some people. The OP had a Malibu, which has a very linear throttle, and similar vehicles to that throttle tip-in would be the Acadia, Tacoma, Silverado, Camry, etc. while Subies, Fords, BMWs, and other (mostly performance) brands tend to tip in a lot further.

Guess it's what the OP is used to, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Same for the shifting issue, my brand new truck does that too.

I primarily commute on high way for work between properties so 100 mile stretches, typically on cruise (since the auto cruise or whatever kinda rocks!) I'm thinking i'm a rather normal driver lol.

i briefly looked at the livernois, not concerned over the cost of it, but do you need to leave the thing plugged in all the time or do you set it up and then unhook it for daily use? I also like that it has various octanes you can set it for! 91 here is about a dollar more, ug.

Once you flash it you just unplug it and store it in the box. No need to have it plugged in all the time.

Once flashed just unplug the unit. I like to keep it in my glovebox just in case there's a glitch it's with me. There are some temp reading in there so you can leave it connected for those if you want. If you decide you want to use it for those make sure you order the suction mount when you get the tuner.

Not likely, i would unplug it right after.

Do I just get with the support people there to figure out things for the tune or do i need to know all that ahead of time before requesting the actual tune?

After placing the order you'll receive the MyCal tuner. Then you upload your stock Ranger tune to it and follow the instructions to send it to Livernois. They usually send you all 5 tunes but in the notes just request that they do. Also let them know if you want A/S/S removed as I think they do that now unless noted. You'll receive an email that your tunes are ready then follow the instructions to download them to the MyCal tuner. Now they're all there for you to flash whichever one you want. I would allow a couple thousand miles to let the truck "learn" each tune. I love the 91-93 soft shift tune and and have running that one for the past 2 years.

Their customer service is excellent! If you have any questions or need help uploading/downloading they'll walk you through it. It's very easy to do though as long as you follow the instructions.

If you haven't updated to the v5 version of the 91-93 soft shift tune, it's fantastic!

I haven't because I have a Mac and my friend who's PC I used for the tune has moved. I've been happy with the older one for now until I can find someone else's PC to use. I don't want to partition the hard drive or run parallels just for this.
