2021 Ford Ranger Hard Shift into Drive when Hot

Looking for some education before I go into the dealer. My son just had a full hip replacement and we are visiting to help him. He has a 2021 Ranger with 66,000 miles. So I noticed when driving his truck that when the transmission is hot there is a hard shift when shifting into drive. The shift is smooth when the transmission is cold. It does not happen when shifting into reverse only drive when hot. I have an appointment at a Ford dealership tomorrow to service the transmission (flush) and they are going to look it over.

I have read about the valve body being a potential issue, but I thought I would ask others here first and see if others had the same experience so I can get more knowledgeable before I go to the dealership.

Thanks. I just think it is the tranny because it seems to only happen when the transmission heats up.

I’d guess it’s the driveshaft needing lubrication. Could also be not holding the brakes down enough. I notice my ranger does this if I featherfoot the brake pedal when shifting from park to reverse or drive.

Clear the keep alive memory in the pcm first, here at the ford dealer I work for this is our first step

Check the color of the fluid. Mine did that too, it was black, then it went pop. But if I checked the fluid I feel like I could have saved it. It was so thin and worn out its not funny. Once of prevention and all that
