Ranger has 51,000 miles. Could feel the transmission slipping. Dealership I bought from closed. Took it to another dealership. They said need a new transmission. Felt the torque converter had messed up. Said fluid is black and has metal in it. They were in process of going under new ownership and could not perform the repairs for a couple weeks. I took it to another dealership as this is my only vehicle and need it fixed. Had to be towed to the next dealership as it quit pulling hills. Next dealership said it needed 3 quarts of tans fluid. Other than that no problems detected. No leaks nothing. When I pulled out of lot it started slipping again. Took back to first dealership. They said need new transmission still have the same problems and now 1st gear is out. They couldn’t repair it and transferred it to their sister store. This dealership says they did tsb 24-2101 and now it runs fine. Tests came back nothing wrong. I pull out of parking lot and it’s is still slipping in the 30-45mph range. Took it back and they tell me it’ll be weeks before it’ll be fixed. Said it’ll be couple weeks before they can even diagnose it. I’m already 4 weeks into this mess without a plan to fix it. Looking for suggestions on who to contact at Ford and opinions on if the trans should be replaced since it has gotten hot enough to not be driveable at one point. It is still slipping on the 30-45 mph range. Wanting to make sure I push to get this fixed correctly.

This is why it’s advisable to change your fluid & filter ASAP.
At 6100 mi 50% towing mine was already dark red color.
It’s a messy intimidating , diy job, you can reuse pan gasket and filter O ring at least the first time, ULV fluid is $12 qt 6/7 needed, filter is $40.
I sucked out fluid with 12 V pup, one qt war still in it.
refill from top with tubing & funnel. The hardest part was breaking loose 19 mm dipstick cap. Don’t overtighten small bolts, note location and heat shield.
How to do this is will documented on this forum & U Tube.

Any shop with lift would make this an easy less than two hr job.

I’m 77 did it and pan (PPE) upgrade under truck on grass, no issues. Search my name for pictures and how to, good luck

If the dealer said you need a new trans, let them do it. Otherwise, you will be stuck in a loop as other dealers want to try other prescribed methods.
1st trip, reprogram the trans
2nd trip, rebuild the valve body
3rd trip, replace valve body
4th trip, replace CDF drum
5th trip, replace trans

Do yourself a favor and let them go to step 5 and skip all the others. Either way, you are going to be down for a few weeks.

Ugh!..My 2020 is in the shop for a new tranny as we speak, supposed to have it back today. Fortunately it was a smooth process for me, one test drive and in the shop it went on 7/1. If your getting the run around call Ford, the reps can be quite helpful.. 1-800-392-3673. Wishing you the best. Keep us informed!!!!

I did take it back to the one that said it needed replaced. They agreed it needed to replaced but said they were unable to do the it and they transferred it to their sister dealership who is now giving me the run around.

Thanks. I called ford corporate when I couldn’t get anyone on the phone about the status of my truck. Said there isn’t much they can do until I get a diagnosis on the truck. Ford did call the dealership and get status updates where I couldn’t even get that. Ford suggested I take it to another dealership. I said I’ve been at 3 and keep getting the run around. I’ve called all over and told it’ll be weeks or even months before another dealership can take a look at it. Same story they are backed up on transmission work and short handed on techs. I’ve only drove Fords but this fiasco is making me ready to try something different. I know vehicles can have problems but I’m 4 weeks in and no real estimate wh

Wow, sorry to hear that, frustrating to say the least. Ford really needs to step up and start a recall, its getting old!

Ford will do their best to not warranty this if the vehicle has been towed. They will refer you to Ford Servide bulletin 22-7086. Best of luck.

TSB 24-2101 has three steps to it. What step(s) did they perform on your truck. Repair order should spell out what they did. The TSB provides provisions to fix your issue. The dealer has to follow the steps. At 51K and 4 years old it may not qualify for a new transmission under the low time in service policy stated in the TSB. But it does definitely qualify for the repair of the transmission under the 5 year 70K power train warranty.
It sounds you have a dealer issue more than a Ford issue. Most dealers are pushed out time wise on transmission work.

Work order says found TSB 24-2101 reinstall trans solenoid strategy and preform adaptive learn retested. They didn’t even look at the transmission. Said the tests they ran said it was ok. I returned it after driving a couple miles away from dealership and doing the same thing as before. Now they say it needs a torque converter. Before this I kept getting pushed from dealership to dealership. Ford corporate response was try another dealership. I’ve called every dealership around and I’ve been told it’ll be weeks to months before the truck can be looked at. The first dealership diagnosed that it needed a torque converter but I’ve gotten the run around in why they cannot fix it and sent me somewhere else. I’m 5 weeks in and third dealership. After pushing they finally checked the transmission and said it’s the torque converter. Said it may be another month or so before it is fixed.

I'm just posting to add another white ranger to the thread.

This makes me think I should have the trans fluid changed? I have 20K on my 2020 truck. Haven't had any issues to speak of.

Your reply makes no sense. Are you implying that if my truck breaks down due to engine or trans failure, they will not warranty repairs because it was towed to the dealer? What exactly is TSB 22-7086?

Edit: The only references to TSB 22-7086 I can find relates to flat towing a vehicle, which is not the same as having it towed to a repair shop by a tow truck.
