Today pulled up to freeway ramp meter unknowingly sport mode. Light turned green and the truck was dead in the water. I then put it into drive . The trans wound up to a big clunk. holy crap!!
After that it drove normal. I went for a short drive later and it shifted fine. (i was in drive mode) I parked and came out about a hour later and went to put it into drive and it was huge clunk! then it went into gear. I have owned just about every brand of car and truck. Never before have I heard such a scary ka-boom on a new trans.
Truck has 20,000 miles on the ticker.
This rig may get traded for a 5.0 F150 I was willing to give this Turbo 4 a chance but I may cut my losses.
I feel sick to stomach with buyers remorse.

Hi John,

Chances are an F150 will have the same transmission. Get the dealer involved...something is not correct for you to have such misfortune... Open a formal complaint with Ford Customer Care as well.

What does the engine have to do with the transmission? The F150 has the same transmission. Going from a 4 cylinder Ranger with the 10 speed to the 8 cylinder F150 with the 10 speed just gets you a bigger monthly payment. It's under warranty - take it to the dealer. :)

So you have a transmission scare which makes you want to trade in for another vehicle that has the exact same transmission? Makes sense..
I should tell you I owned a 2013 F150 4x4 5.0 for 8 years. The truck was bullet proof . Brakes, tires, oil changes. I should be more specific about years model etc. I understand mechanical issues but this sound was gut check on internals that sounded very loose. Not looking for shoulder to cry on.

I apoligize to the group. I was not aware that the two trucks share the same trans. My bad. In the future I will do a bit more reading prior to spouting off.

Hi John,

No apology is necessary. There is something wrong with your transmisson and the dealer needs to address the concern... This transmission when operating properly is silky smooth and a joy to drive. I have never experienced such a smooth automatic in my time at Ford...some 30 years!

Get it checked at the dealer.
So far no real issues has popped up with the truck.
Well, that gas in oil is unnerving but no motor has blown up.

Nah - don't apologize. We are all adults here. Hopefully the dealership can get it straight for you.

Have the dealer check the transmission fluid level as it may be low. You can check it yourself, but it's kind of a pain in the butt. There are multiple reports on the Mustang, F150 and from on here Ford has had issues with underfilling the 10R80 transmission by as much as 1.5-2 quarts. Mine was 1.5 qts. low and would do something very similar to yours if I popped it into reverse from drive or vise versa too quickly. It would randomly do this until I had the fluid level checked and they topped it off. Since they topped it off it has not slammed into gear like that when switching.
