Yes. It was a cam phaser, and a vvt solenoid with a timing chain

Awesome - The Solenoid moves the Phaser, and it order to replace the Phaser, the Chain has to be removed. So, either the Solenoid was holding the Phaser, or the Phaser was stuck. So, they addressed both possible issues.

Try unhooking battery and holding terminals together and see if it causes a reset also pray while doing this and have a beer with a anti-anxiety pill.
If you are going to do this use a 1 ohm high wattage resister. Without it there is a possibility of blowing a board due too power draw from any charged caps in the system discharging. Bleed them down slowly (just a second or 2 in our time, but eternity to a logic circuit).

Agreed, but if you ate going to pull the cables and short them, it is best to put some resistance in there.
