So, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking of this replacement (thanks a lot Tony). I was trying to remember if the neck and the smaller tube each fed into separate hoses or not. I think it failed because the hole for the filler neck’s retention screw (inside the gas door) started to rust and had spread to the neck assembly. At least, that’s how I remembered it at 3:00 am. :D

It’s always the weakest link that can cause big problems. I think I paid about $70 Cdn pesos for mine - the dealer wanted something like $300. Pffffft.

Sorry for the insomnia

It will be a week before i tear into it to really see what's going on - waiting on parts. The filler hose has a nice buldge just above the hose clamp, but look dry on the side that I can see.

I think I can get a small ratchet up in there to loosen the hose clamp, but it is going to be a bear to get off with the bed on the truck. Putting it back on will be easier as I can position the hose clamp facing me.

I'm suspicious simply due to where I see gas, above the tank about 3" wide streak running across the front of the bed floor, then dripping drown the driver side frame rail. Looks like the leak was pressurized. That's not the O ring seal.

Logic tells me it is the pressure regulator stuck closed, but I suppose it is possible when driving that air flow could create a low pressure area above the tank. I'll know when I finally pull off the filler hose. If it is intack, I'll still replace it. Then I'm going to drive the truck and see if the symptoms repeat. But idling the truck for 5 minutes should have been enough for the pressure to build and the leak to show itself. it was not, leaing me to think it may very well be the filler hose leaking at the top of the tank. The tank is now down to 3/4 full ans if it was the filler hose, the leak would stop.

I should have replaced that hose when I installed the Ford fuel pump 18 months ago. It would have been a simple 5 minute exercise. I won't make that mistake again.

Not seeing an error code has left me surprised and a little confused as well.

I now, right? Leave your filler cap off or loose and you’ll get a CEL. Have gas leaking from somewhere not that far from exhaust bits, and nothing.

Spent a little time today with my two Bore Scopes looking above the fuel tank. Here is what I saw.
This is the filler hose where it meets the top of the fuel tank. It is dry. You can see the buldge above the clamp that I alluded to earlier. It is not leaking.

However the left most line appears to have lifted off the input stud and leaked gas. I don't recall one being higher than the others and it is somewhat cocked. This is the port closest to the cab.

Notice how clean the input port is. Gas is a great cleaning agent! The question remains why the pressure rose so high as to raise the cap.

I'm going to try to reach up there and push the cap down onto the port. If it locks into place we will have the answer about what was leaking, but not WHY it was leaking.

I started the truck earlier and let it idle for 5 minutes with no leak found. Going to drive it a short distance to see if the leak begins again.
