18's vs 17

FX4 trim Lariats have 17" wheels and 18" wheels are available on XLT that don't have FX4.

It's generally considered that more sidewall is better for off road. The smaller sidewall will give sharper handling at the expense of sidewall flex.

XLT 4x4 black appearance package have 18" non FX4. They are also rated for different PSI's

My 20' Lariat came with 18's and the Low Pro Hankook tires. That was just the way it came with the packages I ordered. We promptly swapped them out for the Magnetic 17" Rims and I have Toyo Open Country II AW P265/70R17 tires on it. My truck is a 4x4 and gets used as such a lot, the 17" are much better for off-roading with the taller sidewall and allow me to air-down for extreme rocky areas.

Well, that wasn't true in 2019. I have an FX4 Lariat and I have 18s'. I think the 17's come with the sport package which many people got. I did not get the sport package.

I have a 2022 XLT FX4 With the black out package and 18’s…… and I will be going to 17’s.

I have the black appearance package on my Lariat also, with the same 18s. I have a set of sport package 17s for my winter snow tires. I much prefer the look of the 17s over the 18s. Both are the roughly the same diameter tire (265/60r18 vs 265/65r17).

Regardless of on road or off road performance, the best wheel size is the smallest required to clear your brakes. More sidewall is obviously better off road, but it also leads to a better road presence, and more comfortable ride.

That said, most people seem to think bigger wheels look better (thus why the F150 Limited has 22'' bright chrome wheels). The other consideration would be tire availability - there are a lot more 17'' tires available for off road use than there are for 16'' wheels.

When I shopped, any blackout package came with 18" wheels, including XLT and FX4 options. If its blackout, its 18".

Hence, I did not want blackout. 17" wheels for me, please.

could always get aftermarket thou i never wanted the black appearance package but sometimes you get what you get when it shows up so i just swapped em
