5G vs. 6G - what's gained or lost?

I have a 2020 Supercab also, with over 100k normally I'd be getting a new one now but I hate to give up the longer bed. I don't need a back seat.
I had an Explorer Sport Trac before, they're about the same size as a 4 door Ranger, if you get the optional bed extender the short bed is tolerable. Hard bed covers mostly don't work with the extender though, you have to get a vinyl roll-up cover (which is what I need anyway).

The bed length was an issue for me as well, but I keep a DeeZee cargo box at the front of the bed so my useful bed length is actually only 4' 7". I can move that box to the back seat of a 6G since I also don't really need the back seat and I'll still have the same useful length.

The 2024 6G Ranger with a 2.3L is a one year engine, it does not have the dual injection.

I'm going to cross-post this in the 6G forum as well, but thought I'd start here first.

For those who've replaced (or added to) a 5G with a 6G, what did you gain, and what did you lose?

I'm thinking about replacing my 2020 Lariat SuperCab with a 6G, but it's hard to tell just by content descriptions exactly what I'd be gaining or giving up. I know I'd lose a foot of bed length to start, but it looks like that will be workable. There's the difference in transmissions, but mine has shown no problems in its 42K miles.

Other options are less clear. I know I'd opt for the Lariat, so I'd gain things like:

Memory settings, which apparently only apply to the rearview mirrors (kind of limits the value for me)
Heated steering wheel (top of my list for wanting an upgrade)
Adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist (my highway time is much less than it used to be, but there will always be some)
Larger infotainment screen integrated with Sync (I have a Linkswell now but would prefer the OEM solution)
Integrated box step (also high on my list of wants)

What else is there?

On the losses side, there's the bed length, but what else?

- It sounds like the folding mirrors have gone away, at least on some trim levels.
- The leather seats aren't actually leather anymore

If I go for the 6G, is one model year better than another in terms of content? It looks like there are some low-mileage 2024-2025's out there that would save a good chunk of change versus new.

My 2020 is paid for, so I want to understand as much as possible, what value I'd get for taking on a new car payment.

My 2020 XLT does have Adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist. Though the newer version has stop sign detection and full stop capability apparently.
My 2020 also have wired/wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Sync so I run my OnXOffroad on the screen, not as big as the current screen which they apparently have two options of screen size per the manual.

They still have power folding mirrors, it's an option.

I bought mine used. so it is what it is. I've since learned that, to get a 2020 Lariat with adaptive cruise, etc., the original buyer would have needed to select the 501A package instead of the standard 500A package or possibly specify those options individually.

The one thing I really wish my 2020 XLT Sport 4x4 had was defrosting side mirror ability - Michigan winters. Lariat Only.
Oh, and LED lighting (Lariat only) would have been really nice.
Mine does have a rear locker though which was top of my wish list based on my previous truck a XLT FX4.

The "packages" really mess up when you are looking for certain features. have to create a checklist of what you want as you go through a new or used vehicle.

honestly I don't think the 6g is worth it over the 5g if you already own one and it's almost paid off. now when a 6g tremor comes it's gonna be very hard for me to resist an upgrade

Once you get used to it the 12" info system is really good. Nav is improved, more functionality.
Raptor model is huge step up from 5g off road and performance and blast to drive.
The fox 2.5 active mode suspension is superlative.

No amber drls/hood markers for RR
No cooled seats (either5g or 6g))

BO system lacks clarity, bass and muddy.
Most of the control settings, music, hvac only accessible digitally from 12" display.

Overall I love my 2025 RR especially after upgrading lights, sound deadening and speakers/sub. I have gotten used to the sloppy shifter, but otherwise it is an awesome truck.

RR is a whole different animal.... it's very tempting but my 2WD is just fine

You do have limited physical controls for HVAC and radio.
As far as the shifter goes, have you ever turned the truck off without putting it in park? It automatically shifts to park without touching the stick.

I've have been going back and forth, pro's and con's my own "what's lost what's gained" comparison. I think I really can't make a decision till the 27's come out, to see what's new, what's been deleted. So, I have time lol.

I want to thank everyone for all the good information supplied. It has really helped to sharpen my focus.

I just turned 73 and told my wife I want to have one more new/newer truck with all the bells and whistles. I'm in good health and still physically active so maybe I'll get more than one, who knows?

Until I see the 2027 order guide, I think I will focus on the 2025 model year with the lowest mileage I can find once I'm ready to pull the trigger. It won't be this year due to some expensive home repairs and landscaping projects, but next year is very likely. If the 2027 proves to have significant content upgrades, it could shift the focus, but we'll see.

He's saying that the first year of the Gen 6 Ranger did NOT have dual fuel injection to prevent carbon buildup.

It was added in the 25 model year.
