I guess if this happens it would get both get out of financial binds from their EV losses and Ford from their recall losses. I know that government contracts especially military ones are held to a much higher standard but I sure hope they can build parts that are high quality and don't fall apart. There's no error for recall here!

The Pentagon has approached major U.S. automakers, including Ford and General Motors, about helping to expand America’s military supplies, marking the first time since World War II that large manufacturers have been asked to contribute directly to the country's munition stock.

Both Ford and General Motors are well known for their contributions to the American war effort during World War II, building aircraft, transportation vehicles, engines and various other necessary parts used in military equipment.

Defense officials have framed the request to automakers as a matter of national security, the Journal reported. Discussions remain preliminary, according to the newspaper, and no official contracts have yet been announced.

Though it is not yet clear what these manufacturers would produce for the Pentagon it is likely that any automaker supporting the American munition supply would focus on producing transportation vehicles, mechanical components that do not require secure facilities, and other less advanced systems.

Let’s just hope that the Ford and GMs joint venture works out better than the 10R80 did or our troops could be left with a pile of rubble.

GM Canada is looking at the possibility of producing military tactical vehicles at their Oshawa plant.

No.....give em 10R80's.....they already have a history of blowing up....give em to the military !!!!
Same with Tesla's....they have a history of blowing up at random....just have to figure out how to control it....blow up on demand.
Ship a load of Tesla's to your enemy as a gift and.....KABOOM !!!!

Ford and Chevy make a lot of exploding contraptions lately. No need to adjust production lines. Just drop 6.2 engines out of planes. Cheaper than a JDAM either way.
Like airbags, although this was Ram lol.

I wonder why Stellantis was skipped.

Was it due to them being a foreign owned company or their propensity for building junk?

It would cost to much to supply all the ducks needed for the dashboards. 🦆🦆

Sounds like a coverup for a government bailout. Giving them overpriced military contracts.

if the contracting officer and the acquisition plan is well thought out, it’ll have the correct contract type to hold their feet to the fire.

Ford and GM probs not gonna like the latent defect language

fair thought. Made me wonder if specialty metals stuff came into play for Stellantis.
https://www.acquisition.gov/dfars/2...-certain-articles-containing-specialty-metals.

Being foreign owned tho is, as you suspected, likely to blame. Politicians freak out when non-US OEMs are used in an effort where domestics exist. Case in point, Boeing vs Airbus. Even tho airbus was potentially the better product, and willing to build manufacturing facilities in the US, Boeing got the tanker contract for the USAF despite losing, protests, etc etc etc.

Government acquisition is tough with so many regs and risk of protest.
