Bittersweet Day Today - New Raptor

It reminds of a time when one of the US Navy aircraft carriers was in Vancouver in the ‘80s. Our navy would often conduct joint maneuvers with the USN off the coast of BC and WA. The largest ships would be waiting in English Bay for just the right tide so they could fit under the first narrows (Lion’s Gate Bridge) bridge. Those flat tops are massive in all dimensions! Honestly, I think it was the USS Ranger, which makes this story even better.

The local news would cover their presence because, between the various ships, there could be 7,000 or more sailors in port. Of course, the aircraft carriers always brought controversy - “we can neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons on board”.

The protesters would be out in their inflatables circling the ships in the bay, waving their “No Nukes” flags and the media boats would be out there getting it all on video for the six o’clock news.

Crew members were out on deck having a look and one sailer shouts down (I think with a megaphone) and says, and I kid you not…..

“I can sink your country!”

Sorry Todd but I can't agree with you. It's not a truck if it can't tow. And the only thing it can do better offroad is take jumps and woops which 99% of the people on here aren't interested in doing. I really like them. But if your going to discard me for liking a more capable truck, then I'm going to start listing every fault the vehicle has. Everybody is different and the raptor doesn't appeal or meet the needs of everyone! Hell my ill ranger already has the same size tires and more ground clearance than the raptor. And with the unleashed tune, cvf ic and charge pipes and down pipe and Gibson dual exhaust. The STOCK ranger raptor can't catch me. With a tune I'd have no chance but as they sit. I like mine better.

If I had just bought a nice truck like that (and admit it, most of us here probably would appreciate having that truck), I would be a bit bummed that y'all weren't celebrating the event with me.

Respect goes both ways! Someone shouldn't be bashing another's mother which is unacceptable in my book. Heck I can only think of 2 really good (long time) friends I'd MAYBE say that to and that's only if we were messing around drunk. I'll die on the sword it was rude and uncalled for.

I think the vitriol stemmed from the comment that the RR "is so much better than the pieces of crap that all of you are driving"

That wasn't the exact quote, but that's kind of the way it came across.

Different strokes for different folks. Buy/drive what fits your needs but don't disparage what someone else drives just because it's not what you like (unless it's a Tacoma. Those are fair game...)

I agree perception is reality. I also realize this is 5g not 6g forum. The statement was why pay 30k more for a truck that is not much more capable. I owned a very nice fx4 lariat with 5k+ offroads mods for 6 years. That state is simply not true. It also threw shade to the OP who was celebrating his new truck. I know there are others that have considered buying a RR here as I was one. It is an amazing truck, but as you said perhaps not for everyone.

I will toss in a few thoughts on the differences, the underside of the RR is really nice, I was all over one and it's more like a Bronco underneath, no leaf springs, it has a proper Watts off road rear suspension and it's on road manners should be a ton better than our trucks.
After spending half a day under the hood and underneath, it's on a different level all together. I wanted one.
I will say in my opinion.. It is far better than what I'm driving and I love my truck.
I looked at everything, there is not a single area that is not improved from the 5G Ranger. (except the access to the transmission filler, it's worse than the 5G )

Well where I work, we're constantly throwing around mom jokes. Nobody gets offended. Of course you have to know the person, which is probably where I went wrong here. BTW, the only thing I'll be towing is a utility trailer.
