@Grumpaw - yeah I've had the thought that if this is to be a $30,000 truck it's going to need to have a $27,000-$28,000 sticker.

Farley calls it a $30,000 truck but I've noticed the rest of the executives and engineers quoted call it an "around $30,000 truck."

So yeah, $40,0000.

Yeoh "Around $30 thousand" in the corporate world is $39,999.99 !!!
Neat thing is.....like the Lightning, when they don't sell, dealers will start to discount them to get rid of em.
Around here Lightnings are posted for $10-$15 thousand under sticker cause dealers just want them off the lot after sitting for months.
So, the "$30" thousand small EV may eventually sell for $25 grand !!!

Well if the US really wanted to promote low cost EVs for the masses they'd allow BYD which has an entry level model at $8k and a higher end model touting a 400+ miles range. The cost would be more to meet US standards but not by a huge amount, Canada recently signed a deal allowing for up to 49k China produced vehicles, This won't happen in the US for a number of reasons but I think it's smart for Ford and GM to redo their EV plans to at least stay in the market. Below some info on BYD which now sells in over 100 countries and auto journalists who have tested BYD products are impressed as CEO Farley is as well ( I can already hear the Bronx cheers starting, but China sells the US nearly everything - so why not EVs ? )

As of early 2026, BYD has cemented its position as a top-tier global automaker, ranking 6th in worldwide vehicle sales with 4.6 million units in 2025. It has overtaken major competitors like Ford and is a leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), also ranking 91st on the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list.
Key Rankings and Achievements (2025-2026):

  • Global Automaker Ranking: 6th largest in 2025, surpassing Ford.
  • EV Market Position: World's top seller of plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
  • Fortune Global 500: Ranked 91st in 2025, marking its first entry into the top 100.
  • Market Capitalization: Ranked 3rd most valuable car manufacturer globally.
  • China Market: Top-selling car brand in China as of 2023.
  • Battery Producer: FinDreams Battery (BYD subsidiary) is the world's 2nd largest EV battery producer..

I pondered if all the EV haters ever did any research into battery life. All I read is that they have a 10 year, or 100k warranty on them. So, when the car hits those milestones, you have to replace the battery at a huge cost. Do they talk that way about ICE cars with a 60k warranty?
Much like solar panels warranty. Do they stop working at 25 years? Hmmmm?

I am not for or against EV's. They have a place. And that place seems to be growing as improvements are made.

Nope, but I I know most think that solar panels are DOA after 20-25 years but that's not true. Mine were 10 years old when I sold my house and they were still producing the same percentage of kWh that they were on day one. Now after 25 years they will start to decrease (that's why most are warrantied for 20-25 years) in production but by no means are they junk and need to all be replaced. Sometimes a couple will degrade more than the others and you can just pop out those panels and replace them.

The inverter will most likely need replacing before the panels do but I went with micro inverters instead of just one large one. This way every panel has it's own micro inverter so if one fails the others are still working producing power. It could be a couple weeks before you get a new one and this way the whole system isn't down. Kind of like the old Christmas lights where when one bulb burnt out the whole string went out. Now with the new ones your lights still work and just replace the one bulb.

Actually, it's an MFN tariff of 6.1% on the first 49K, after which a higher tariff rate would apply. There isn't an actual limit to how many EVs China can bring into Canada, although the higher tariff rate will depend on how much Canadian content/manufacturing is included in the final product.

Sounds like we both did solar the same way. Hopefully you had net metering.

Yes sir, I got it before they took it away and was grandfathered in for 20 years. What was nice is it was the house that was grandfathered in so when I sold it the new owner was able to resume it. I'd like to get it again but it's really not worth it now without the net metering and it's not nearly as hot down here. Plus I just did a new HVAC and had an R-49 blown in the attic on Monday so it'll be really efficient. I haven't had to turn the heat on and now I know I can make it through the rest of the winter (which was mild here) without turning it on. Right Chris @Chris M. lol 😜

I still think you need to try it at least once so Annie can thaw out just a wee bit. You know she's gotta be tired of having to wear that big parka all the time!

🤔 Maybe you're right. This is how she dresses in the office. 🥶

Chris, you completely missed Dave's strategy. He's keeping Annie cold so that she doesn't have the energy to go online shopping....
