That is an ugly truck.
Not Cybertruck ugly, but ugly nonetheless.
It ain't the prettiest thing that is for sure - but one thing I really like is the simplicity of it (it still has manual wind up windows!) and the ability to be easily worked on. You can see all the visible screws which make taking things apart simple. It will be interesting to see how well it does.

It's not the prettiest truck in the world by current standards, but it certainly fills a void that other automakers nearly refuse to occupy in the states. The Hyundai Santa Cruz, Honda Ridgeline, and Ford Maverick are the only "close" competitors.

I would be lying if I said it doesn't pique my interest. The design language gives off a hint of retro-futurism similar to the Plymouth Prowler, Ford Thunderbird, and Chevy SSR from the early 2000s. The slate's design feels vaguely inspired by the late 60s/early 70s International Harvester.

Yep. Thats the look alright!
Except the International was more...put together? Not sure what I'm trying to say except the International seemed to just fit in a coherent fashion. The Slate seems awkward in a way to me.

One interesting thing they said on the Jay Leno's Garage episode was that every single vehicle going down the assembly line was IDENTICAL. Any modifications are done after they come off the assembly line. They said this was done to reduce cost.

Another interesting thing was that you could buy the pickup version and 2 years later decide you want the SUV version (with a rear seat) and buy the kit to convert it. They said you could easily do it yourself or take it to one of their "dealers" to have it done - they don't have dealers but they do have some sort of service network. That is a pretty cool feature, IMO.

True - However, huge difference being the Cybertruck starts at $80k but we know most of them are 6-figure peacock feathers. If this Slate can truly be acquired for under $30k it has a face I can learn to love!

I don't see why it couldn't be done. The interesting thing about Slate is Bezo's involvement. He can drop the cost of R&D, building a factory and producing it out of his own pocket without even noticing it if he wanted to (he's worth almost $250 billion, so the total cost of producing these would be almost an unnoticeable blip in his wealth), that could artificially keep prices down to gain market share quickly. Kind of like how the Chinese manufacturers do it with their government involvement. A longer term strategy, but one that could easily work.
