Agree with Farley but percentages don't mean much. Adding percentages to anything is irrelevant unless you know the real numbers because percentages can make anything look good.

Which would you rather see?

54% increase of 19,000 units
or
54% increase of 250,000 units
Fair point.

Something to consider: You've got 20k new Tacos on cars.com versus 10k Rangers. That 2:1 inventory does suggest, however, that Ford is aiming up with 2025 Sales at 274k Tacos to 71k Rangers, maybe targeting 100k annual Ranger sales?

Tacoma sold almost 5 times as many Tacomas than the Ranger in 2025. The Ranger came in 4th for mid size sales YTD.

This was only through 3 quarters where Toyota sold 249,563 through November of '25 and the Ranger was 48,278.

Would seemingly be a rash decision to axe the Ranger imo. Ford really has a nice build with the 6th gen. It’s regularly recognized is one of the most reliable trucks. It only needs some minor tweaks to set it apart.

It takes years to build up a reputation of reliability. Giving up on a platform that gives you that seems so wasteful.

it’s a not 0% chance they axe it, but I really do think it’d be a dumb move.

I just got asked the other day what truck was it I was driving, second time actually in the past 2-3 years? Granted, by senior citizens but ones that were looking for a new truck no less.

Ford doesn't do the Ranger any favors in marketing, I can't remember seeing an ad for one but F150 is pimped hard.

I agree. But the sales numbers I posted above don't lie. They're not even close to Toyota in sales and lagging behind both Chevy & Nissan. If they start seeing a higher demand for the Maverick I can see them eventually axing the Ranger. Maybe that's the reason they're not going to do a PHEV Ranger?

I hate to say but dumb moves and Ford kind of go hand and hand lately with them putting all their eggs into the EV basket and now loosing 19.5 billion.

Chevy (so far) has only lost 7 billion but still not chump change. At least Chevy kept most of their car lineup to help with sales.

I still have yet to see a commercial for the Ranger which is crazy since it been out now for 7 years! They'll always push the F150 as it's their bread and butter but you'd think they'd want to compete more in the mid size truck market by advertising the Ranger.

I use to get asked a lot what truck I was driving too. Mostly with my '19 because of the color and when I said it was a Ranger almost all would say they didn't even know they were still around.

funny you mention it, but I did see an ad for it during the Ravens v Steelers game last Sunday night! Well… it was a general ford ad, but the ranger got heavy coverage through the opening.

Yeah I really don’t disagree. We’ve discussed many times through the years that Ford is too cowardly to let the Ranger compete with the F-150. So the platform is gimped in terms of design and options. Crew cab with a long bed? Never. That’d eat the F-150 STX’s lunch. Meanwhile, the Maverick is attractive to every non truck owner there.

I really wish Ford would open up the design freedom on the Ranger, or just commit to making it their fun overland/off roader. Something special as a stand out.

Probably help sales a little if they'd advertise it some.

Huh? 274k Tacomas Sold in 2025 / 71k Rangers Sold in 2025 = 3.86 times as many Tacos.

Unless you're referencing a different number your calculation you've either added 81k to the number of sold Tacos or are claiming Ford only sold 54k Rangers.

No, I was going by this link where it said Ford only sold 48,278 Rangers. These are through November of 2025

From the link:
https://carfigures.com/us-market-brand/ford/ranger

How many Ranger did Ford sell in 2025?
Ford sold 48,278 Ranger in 2025. (From Jan - Nov 2025)

But even so it's still a 4-1 difference which is still far behind Tacoma sales. Point being that's the reason you were seeing so many more Tacos for sale than Rangers. That and Tacomas are garbage! :puke:

Ford had their chance and probably missed it. The old days of car ads they should have made one of the Ranger doing tough stuff towing past a Toyota broken down on the side of the road. I think the Tundra engine recalls must be getting to the mainstream or close to it. The questionable stuff on the Taco are probably just at the enthusiast level where the Yota fans will just upgrade to fix the weakness (front shock mounts).

I did like the 5th gen being more narrow. However, zero chance Ranger gets discontinued.
Don't jinx it. It may not be discontinued, but the 7g Ranger could be the new EREV unibody midsize pickup coming out. Ford is notorious for playing "musical nameplates." Ranger was an Edsel model, Explorer was an F-150 trim, Edge was a Ranger model, Capri was a Lincoln trim, on and on.

Ranger is the number one or two pickup in the Rest Of World (ROW) markets, where there are no standard pickups. They have regular cabs, SuperCrews, chassis cabs, gas, hybrid, and diesel powertrains, all in standard and SuperDuty configurations. But in North America, it's the redheaded stepchild. Maverick outsells it more than 2 to 1. Vocational bodybuilders barely support it. Ranger sold just under 71,000 trucks in 2025, an improvement over 2024, but if Ford believes that there would be more profit in chopping the body-on-frame Ranger to expand Bronco production and moving Ranger to the new CE-1 Unibody architecture...

Taco owners are probably one of the most loyal fan bases out there. From the rusted frames to the horrible weak powertrain in the 3rd gen. They're like the Chesseheads up in Green Bay and will follow them to the end. lol

When I was thinking of buying a Tacoma, I joined Tacoma World to get some first hand experience.

I was totally unprepared for the type of experience I would get.

I have never encountered a site with more White Knights.

If ANYONE mentioned a problem or issue, it was immediately swooped on by users claiming it was obviously the driver's fault.

The issue that sticks in my head from there was when a user had their rear axle lock up on the highway while driving home.

The White Knights rallied from their keep and called him liar, troll, and every other name in the book.

They demanded pics and GPS coordinates of where it happened, a Police report, an oath in blood, you name it.

The user got ticked and left.

Not 3 weeks later, Toyota issued a recall for the rear axles on the Off Road trim Tacomas because they could leak to the point that they could, gasp, lock up while driving.

It warmed a bit of my soul when a TON of the White Knights inspected their trucks only to find the leaking rear axle.

But hey, Tacomas are without fault.

Oh wait, 2024 rear axle...
