I know running 91 made a difference in mine. Not a rocket ship but the "butt-o-meter" tells you! Two mpg improvement in towing the same route camping.
I've run 91 in both my Rangers since they were new. The only 87 they ever saw was the first fill from the dealership. Like you my "butt-meter" says it gave it a little boost but with the high heat we have here I felt it was best to run as high of octane as possible. Besides, I don't put a lot of miles on per year (roughly 8K) so the difference between 87-91 is negligible.
Thank you guys for the information and feedback. I'll post an update after about 3 days, usually how much I can get out of one tank of fuel. I drive through the seat of my pants anyway lol.Mid-grade is a scam. If you don't want to run premium, mix your own. Mid-grade is 80 or 90 percent low-grade and 10-20 precent high-grade. The cost does not reflect the blend.
