I heard a stingray’s bard was very painful.😳
There was a lot of seaweed along the edge of the water at the beach. Thank the Lord we didn’t step on anything.
There are lots of nasty things you can step on in the shallows!

I grew up in the last little town on the mainland 5 miles from Key Largo. Spent my weekends fishing and water skiing. Sometimes the entire night on the boat in South Biscayne Bay or in the Florida straits off Flamingo.

I miss it sometimes, and the place isn't the sleepy farm town I knew. It no longer exists except in my memories.

I've gone back twice since I grew up... the last time in 2007. I barely recognized the place. But here and there the images of old landmarks that no one notices brought back long forgotten memories. But for the most part, the old farms and homesteads have been razed and replaced by the new urban sprawl.

I didn't miss it until I came within 50 miles of where I was raised, and I caught a breath of the salt air... it all came rushing back. Almost everyone I knew is gone, but the bittersweet memories of the past flooded over me.

Good people, hard times, good memories. It is funny that that is all you get to take with you.... I guess the moral of the story is to make good memories.

Anyway, it sounds like you had a wonderful time, and most importantly, made a few of those good memories.

I feel the same way when I go around the area I grew up. Had great memories. It’s so different now. But we did make some great memories on our vacation with our grandson. He had a wonderful time!😊

Haven’t been on here much lately mainly because ‘Ol Butterscorch is performing perfectly.

We went back to Key West in July to take our grandson on a once in a lifetime epic journey (because I’m not driving down there again😆). Here are some pics from our vacation.

Last time we were in Key West was a few years ago in February. Perfect time of the year to visit Fla. But I also visited in 1990 on a military operation in the Navy. I was wading in water off the beach when I stepped on a stingray. Poked a hole in my foot. I don't know what's in a ray's barb, but holy mutha that hurt!
Yes very Painful ! Some people have to be hospitalized due to severe allergic reactions and pain. We have another problem here called the saltwater catfish I’ve been giged by them a couple times. Another delightful sting !

Never ever kick one. that leading edge of the dorsal and pectoral spines will go right through your shoe! They are brittle and venomous. Have a care when removing your hook. They are slippery and will try to jab you. Lay all 3 of those fins down firmly against their body before attempting to remove your hook. You don't want them wiggling around.

How wonderful! Able to see northern lights down here at the bottom of Alabama last night! Guess I don’t need to go to Alaska now.😆❤

I would've loved to have seen that and it's high on my bucket list. Those are amazing pictures Tracy and they're not even crooked. 😆

Supposedly, we should be able to see them tonight too. Better away from street lights. When you see pink glow, look through your phones camera & zoom in some.

That would be awesome to catch them 2 nights in a row. Now that we moved (again) I'll probably have to travel to see them. But it'll give us an excuse to travel. lol

I have seem the northern lights from Va., but they did not compare to the ones I saw almost nightly when I was deployed to Iceland. Much more spectacular.

It is beautiful, and there is a big burst coming tomorrow... a G4 - G5 is coming this way! The 3rd and biggest burst in 3 days!

Those in the Northern US and Canada take note

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued power grid warnings for 11 northern states
Warnings have been issued for portions of the United States’ electric power grid amid a forecasted severe geomagnetic storm.
The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued the forecast on Tuesday, saying a geomagnetic storm at a strength of category G4 would cause issues with electrical grids for states poleward of the 45th parallel.
States north of that latitude include Oregon, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
If you lose power within the next 24 hours, this will probably be the most likely reason.
