I'm still fighting with the fitment of this stupid cover the instructions are terrible they don't have any measurements of how far to mount the rails and where the cover should be in relation to the bed. dont have any description of where to use the butyl tape, dont tell you how to apply the toyota foam seal; I've already broken one prop rod lock. the front of the rail has a slight lip upwards which is causing the cover to not sit flat, at the front. you can hear the seal flapping at 65-70 MPH and its very annoying, Anyone who's installed this thing and has gotten the front to sit flat and you take a picture of the rails at the tailgate and where you mounted the cover in relation to the bulkhead I either need to move my rails back or the cover forward or both. I am about ready to pitch this thing for a solid one piece.

Thanks,
Jay

Jay,

I have a ton of photos up on Post #2 showing the front, sides, rails, underneath, where I mounted them etc. etc.

This cover looks very similar to the Undercover Ultra Flex. You mentioned something about the cable actuated latches not being as secured. I haven't seen a detail of how this cover is latched.

Also curious which covers you found that specify they can't be driven in the propped up position?

Sorry it took a while to get the photos of the latching mechanism.

Finally got around to it.

No problem! Those are great, detailed shots! I appreciate that! Definitely looks like it's a more secure latch setup than the dangling cord style of the other covers. :like:

For the propped open question. I don't know if it was at one of the examples I played with at a Truck place, but I could swear I saw a picture someplace that basically warned not to operate vehicle on the road with the Tonneau propped vertical on the rods.
Regarding driving with panel locked in the upright position, here are the notes from Leer's website:
  • Cover can be latched with the tailgate closed (competitors can't)

  • Auxiliary safety buckles standard - no more blowoffs

  • Panels can be held in a stowed upright position during travel
  • Panels don't lean or rub on your truck

  • Superior water management; no drain tubes required
3-Year limited warranty

EDIT: I inquired of LEER about the need for the roll of butyl tape supplied with the kit, and here is their response:

"That tape can be used to help reinforce any leaky spots you run into during normal use. Every now and again, we do run into something that has a slightly odd shape, dip, or rise in the molded plastic of the bed rail caps. In most cases it isn’t needed."

Installed the tonneau last night. Do the 2 foam strips go on top of the front of the bed to fill that gap? Would be nice if Leer would amend the instructions.

There isn't a guide on the site?

There is, but neither the manual or video on the website discuss the foam strips.

I inquired of LEER customer service about the undocumented materials in the kit. Back in Post #49, I quoted their response for the use of the butyl tape, but later I was told that the foam strips were indeed to be used to fill in the approximately 1 inch gap at the top of the front bulkhead.

So the foam tape goes on top of the bulkhead all the way across?

Edit: Only asked because there was twice as much foam than was needed.

Installation was easy. Probably took 40 min to install it.

OK, you guys convinced me, I ordered the HF350M. I'm getting it installed through a local dealer and should have it on Saturday. Got a good price through the dealer, and I don't have to mess with the installation. I looked at several different options, and this is the best option for me.

I like the fact that you can drive with it in the upright position. Don't know that I would ever do that anyway, but i think it speaks of durable construction.

I've never had a tonneau cover before. Do you have to occasionally tighten up the locking mechanism on this one to keep it from flying off going down the highway?

Guess I won the tonneau lottery. Ordered my Leer on 10/29, contacted Leer about a shipping date on 11/1 and was told "end of the month". On 11/8 got shipping confirmation and received it on 11/11. Installed it and all is well. On 11/19 get email from UPS, you have a delivery tomorrow from Leer. What??? Sure enough on 11/20 there's tonneau #2 leaning against my garage. Email to Leer, no response. Emailed the parent company, TAG (Truck Accessories Group) today and waiting for a response. So far they have only billed me for 1 of therm.

Same exact thing happened to me! Another cover showed up yesterday. I called TAG and haven't heard back. I doubt you'll hear back from Leer. I emailed them twice about something else a few weeks ago, no response.
