Finally got my Ranger back from warrantied transmission repair. Is this what has been the common issue?

Pretty happy with the results. Although I did notice under the car he didnt install the heat shields on either side of the transmission pan. Worth going back to ask them about it?
I would, they’re supposed to be there

Well, I may have spoken too soon. Looks like I have a leak where the bell housing mates up to the block. Appears to be coming from the bolt in the picture. Has me worried about rear main seal. I’ll be calling the dealership tomorrow morning.

Hmm, generally the rear main is not damaged with the Transmission removal, not the removal may have induced a more prevalent leak on a worn seal.

Plus, it appears that the bolt is not fully tightened, may be just a misleading view though.

yeah the bolt certainly does look loose. But even so, correct me if I’m wrong but there shouldn’t be any loose fluid inside the bell housing right? Torque converter holds all the fluid in from the trans?

If its transmission fluid it may just be residual fluid from the remove and install, if its engine oil it would be from the rear main seal.
I suspect they will tighten the bolt (if needed) and have you monitor it for more drips, give it some time for the residual to empty out of the bottom of the housing.
As if transmission fluid and actually leaking from the pump housing - T-Convertor it would be under pressure and a more prevalent leak

100% those are supposed to be there for a reason. Being right next to the converter that's giving off plenty of heat you need something between that and the plastic.

Checked the bolts and they are indeed all tight. Was just a funky camera angle. I mopped up the fluid with a white paper towel and it was certainly red and a bit dirty and smelled like trans fluid. My guess is it was just old fluid from when the torque converter was sitting in the bell housing that is just dripping out slowly. I'm just going to monitor it. I did send it over to the dealership just so they have a record of it. I definitely think I got a good technician who wanted to ID the problem and fix it, he was probably just under the gun from the service writers to get it done ASAP so maybe didn't clean as well as he would given enough time.

Did they replace the heat shields?
