It looks like it will work and its the same thread size as the Valveomax markets, the only difference is Valveomax includes a adapter with a hose, this one you will need to slip a tube over the nipple and hope it does not drip.
This is marketed for General Aviation and the commercial aircraft do not use those types of drain valves (for oil anyway) similar drains are used for hydraulic fluid on some aircraft.

Looking closer at it - the O-Ring on the end would have to be removed as this is set to install into a port vs the Ranger is just a threaded boss into the pan, basically the O-Ring would serve no purpose on the Ranger.

I use ValvoMax on all my cars, but I like the idea as well. My lawn tractor has a similar valve on it as what you reference.
I looked at the valvomax one as well. Just came across the alternative one and was curious. I might just go with the aircraft one just for fun to see if it works.

$80 bucks seems a bit of $$$$ "just for fun to see if it works". Especially since you can get a Valvomax or Fumoto valve for around 1/3 that cost......

Well the O ring might serve the same purpose as the rubber washer on the standard part.

I purchased the valvomax but cannot find a wrench that can torque on to the pan due to how its inset and the lack of clearance. Does anyone have a hack on the best style of wrench to use?

I see mine opening by itself somehow...id never feel comfortable like I do now with an over torqued drain plug and way too tight oil filter... and I'm due pretty soon...

There would need to be a recess for the o-ring to seat in, otherwise it will probably "squish" out.

I guess that depends on how tight the O ring is on the threaded portion. If it's close to the thread it will probably seal, if there is a gap it will probably squish out as you suggested.
I actually used this trick on my own truck once when the rubber washer split when I undid the plug and it turned out I didn't have the spare that I thought I had! But I did have a good selection of O rings and one that was a fairly close fit on the threads sealed up nicely, in fact it stayed there until the next oil change when I changed it for the correct part.

I used a Crow's foot on a ratchet with an extension.
