I grew up here in western SD, moved to CA for a job in 1988, couldn't wait to get out. We bailed in 2015 & moved back here. SD is OK, but I am not fond of the extreme cold in the winter and the hail storms in the summer. I'll admit, I do miss the predictable CA weather.
Understood, we are in Vermont where the winters are not as harsh as yours, but my wife is ready for somewhere warmer.
Always a trade off though, warm places make it hard to ride a snowmobile ?.

It's one of the most beautiful states we've traveled to and we really love it there. But because of what you just mentioned (mostly the friggid winters) are the main reasons we didn't look farther into moving there. That summer ('23) I had just got MP2 and it was storming there every day with hail. Luckily there was a car port and they let me park under it during the storms but we saw a lot of damage to the locals cars while we were there. But we are looking forward to visiting there again really soon.

Wow, you all out there in CA are paying some crazy rates! I have full coverage on my 3 vehicles, 24 Jeep Wrangler, 24 GMC Sierra, and a 25 Subaru Forester. 250/500 limits & $1000 deductible. $1,756 for a year.
Yikes, I need new quotes. =(

Here in New Hampshire (Live Free or Die Broke), for my '22 Ranger and Kate's '22 CX5, we pay $4,344!

And I thought I was slick with my 303 Graphene! =\

Salt in the wound with a little lime why don’t ya ?… yeah Cali is falling apart so bad I sometimes wonder if the almighty duct tape could hold it together… insurance companies have been leaving or just cancel certain type of coverage and I’m not just talking about home insurance companies.. so even then our options are becoming more and more limited..

Pretty much the only thing you’re getting for the money is the weather (sort of)?

My $1,100 cover also has crappy, pop-off with an acorn hit, end caps.

Luckily they always fall off at home. I used some Gorilla glue to keep them on - but still, like you said, it's not chump change. =(
Can't comment much on my gator brand I had for the ranger as it was an open box discount and I had to supply/rig up my own hardware.

Same brand on my frontier except new. Fits fine, but back corners could be a little wider as the velcro is partially visible.

Got a bit of a treasure trove here in the last week. Got a Mike’s Build Shop dipstick, and got ford rotors and pads for all four wheels. Gonna be a fun couple of days getting all this installed.

I’ve never ordered ford rotors. They showed up coated in a grey paint. Anti rust coating or something from what I’ve read on the web. That was a surprise. Oh well! My brakes pads were damn near shot. I’m looking forward to getting everything installed!

Actually got it yesterday but who's counting.

IMG_3633.jpeg

I thought about ponying up for a Warn, but this is not a "gonna use it all the time" winch, it's a "gonna use it only if I get stranded" winch.

I was looking at the 589 hidden winch mount on their website and all their pics were of the Stegodon winch.

The Warns now have a different shape to the exterior and I wasn't sure if it would work with my 589 kit, so off to Amazon I went.

This one is a Rugcel. I was initially looking for a 10K but the 13.5K was the same price so...

Over 1,400 positive reviews so hopefully it will do fine for the maybe 10 times total I will ever use it.

My Ranger is never going to be my trail warrior.

It's going to be the overland/forestry trails camper hauler and I wanted the security of a winch if I was far off the beaten path.

Maybe I can start installing everything when I get my truck back from the dealer.

Winch Thimble

Since my winch has the synthetic rope, a regular winch hook will leave a small portion of the rope exposed where sunlight UV will deteriorate it over time.

The worst time to find it has weakened is when you need it to pull yourself out.

A thimble keeps the rope totally enclosed and protected from UV and weather.
