Hey everyone,

First post here and new to the group. My Ranger has a slight pause/stutter from 3rd to 4th gear. Any ideas of what I’m looking at here? Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated. Here’s some pics of my ‘20 Ranger XLT for your view too, thanks!

Hope you’re still in the 5yr/60000 mile power train warranty or have a ESP plan. Could be the CDF drum issue

Everything that happens to the trans isn't the CDF drum Steve ??‍♂

Definitely take it in if you're under the 5/60 asap, if it's anything serious it can be very costly out of warranty. What is it? Who freaking knows with this trans there are multiple issues that can pop up at any time or never, it's a roll of the dice, unfortunately.

Are you driving in Sport mode or Trailer Tow mode? Towing or heavy payload in the box? Mine shifts 1-3-5,67,8,9,10 under light throttle, and 1-2-4-6,7,8,9,10 at moderate throttle. The only time I can make it shift 3-4 is in Trailer Tow or Sport Modes. I had a problem with herky-jerky operation at slow speeds early in its life, and had the shop reflash the transmission, and it's been fine ever since.

That's how they approach most of the trans problems; they start with a reflash and if that doesn't help, they do a deep dive.

That’s not what they’re doing anymore with the latest TSB. No more flash or valve body cleaning. They go directly to testing the CDF function. If the test confirms a CDF issue then they dive in.
I’m very familiar with the 3-4 issue the OP is speaking about. It was the whole focal point of my transmission issue and lead to a replacement. Again they were very subtle and not slamming or jarring.

That is very interesting, i drive like a granny most of the time and mine typically skips 2 and 6 but will hit most other gears. I have the 3-4 shift delay, which I had the dealership check out about 1k miles ago and of course they said it was a software issue but since i have experienced it two additional times already.

this is interesting. Might be worth it for me as my 2019 has always been quirky. Never gotten worse though. If they go straight to the CDF drum test then I might check this out.

mine was certified pre owned so the diagnostic checks are at least $100. I didn’t wanna pay that for an ecu flash. But a legit test? Yeah maybe now I will. Warranty ends this summer.

I have the '20 XLT and had the same issue as you. It was the CDF Drum. Just got it in before extended warranty was done in another 3,000km. I also had a cracked transmission oil pan and they replaced the heatshield. Also had scoring/burning on some of the CDF rings and failed hydraulic pressure test. The new TSB fixed it.
