I don't know if it's the nature of the beast, so to say, now that my 2021 Ranger XLT 4x4 with 17, 250 miles on it... I've been experiencing this issue the last few weeks off and on (mostly on). For example today, 28 degrees F out, sunny, I remote started the truck around 10:45 a.m. and let it run about 4 minutes. When I put it in reverse to start exiting my driveway, backing out on the level about 40' it's fine. Soon as I get on the paved lane in front of my house, which has a slight incline uphill and put the truck in Drive, it doesn't go, like lurches in place. I tried putting in reverse to let it roll back a couple inches then but back in Drive, still the same thing. I have to do this about 3 times before it will move forward in Drive. Doesn't do it at any other time or any other place.

So I have an appointment at my Ford dealer where I bought the truck for next Wednesday for "the works" oil change and yearly state inspection. I know they won't re able to replicate the problem when I get the truck there (about a 30 minute drive). Do I just ask them to check and see if it's throwing any codes??
(Before anyone comes at me saying "duh", I'm an older lady who doesn't know a lot about the mechanics.) Oh, I do have the Ford extended warranty which ends April 2029 or 75,000 miles.

First thing I would check is fluid level, which is damn near impossible to do properly with the OEM dipstick.

Ok, thanks. I did call the Service Dept a few minutes ago and left a voicemail for them to call me back, so I'll request that!

These transmission threads are getting depressing. I'm old and I'm out in the middle of nowhere a lot. I need a reliable vehicle. Damn it.

Just talked to the service manager and I described what it's doing and when it's doing it and that I'm sure it's not going to replicate the problem when I get there, and he said they'll check it out and pull a fluid sample if they have to.

Should I not have asked here on the forum?? Sorry if the question is redundant. I did do a search of the forum, yes I do know some have experienced transmission issues, but I wanted to describe in detail exactly when, where and how often mine is having an issue.

Val, by all means ask away. These transmissions are finicky and some have real issues that need to be addressed, therefore asking for any ideas is always good!

Mine will sometimes be slow moving in reverse but never forward.

Sid, (msfittoy) had his grenade which is why he posted his meme.

You might try recording it on your phone.
Good idea.... only thing is, where I back out is a one lane paved country road and my driveway is in a blind spot for anyone coming over the crest of the hill so I really try to get moving quickly before anyone comes over the crest and hits me. Had the mail man hit my ole Mountaineer one time when I was backed out already and in that split second I was putting it in Drive. The road was snow covered and he couldn't stop. Fortunately neither of us suffered any noticeable damage to our bumpers.

When mine does it, it's not even slow moving, it just doesn't go forward in Drive.

That is a scary problem to have.
It's bad enough where it is doing it as it is, so far hasn't done it when I'm anywhere else... I just can't figure out the common denominator that's causing it. Goes fine in reverse backing out of the driveway, then as I'm sitting in the road facing uphill on a slight incline, I put in Drive and that's when it occurs. No snow or ice on the road, it should go forward! Now that I think about it though, when we did have snow on the road up until a few days ago, and I had it in 4x4, it never did it. I would go out in left field and guess the tires weren't grabbing on the paved road if it had happened anytime before in those almost 4 years I've owned the truck, but it started fairly recently. My tires look to have good tread still at 17,250 miles on them.
