I have a 2020 Ranger which by all means has been a great truck. For many months now when I start the engine in the morning I can hear an obvious clicking sound coming from the dash board. It is spiritic, it doesn't happen all the time but 90% of the time. The clicking sound will happen when the engine is running and the truck is in Park and not moving (It isn't the keys jingling against the dash), It will happen when the radio is off and will continue to click when driving for the first several blocks or miles.

I've had the truck to the dealership for the noise but of course when the truck is in the garage the clicking doesn't happen. I have an extended warranty and would like to get this resolved while it is still covered. My next step is to leave it at the dealership overnight then go there in the morning, get a service department employee in the truck then start it up. Hopefully it will click away then.

Any suggestions?

Check the defroster strip near the windshield as they rattle…put a piece of tape underneath it ..

Thanks, but the rattle is within the dash. Inside the instrument cluster I believe. It will do it with nothing but the engine running. AC and heater off. Radio off. Sitting still.

I also have a 2020 and I've had the same issue for the last couple of winters. The clicking only occurs in the morning when its cold for about 3 miles and the truck warms up. It doesn't do it when it's hotter and the AC is on.

You will need to take it in so they can drive it (with you in the truck) first thing in the morning if it's cold enough and before the engine warms up.

They'll probably give you the canned response of "I couldn't get it to replicate the issue that you brought it in for" if you're not in the truck to point it out ??? ??

I'll be doing the same thing in a couple years (if the heat keeps working) when I retire as it is my only mode of transportation at this time and I still need to get to work ? and can't just leave it sit at the dealership for a few weeks.

Good thing I have a 10/100 ESP ?

That's exactly the way mine works.... or clicks. I've had it in the dealership once for the noise and they said they couldn't hear it. So I'm going to drop it off one evening and go there in the morning and have someone sit in it with me when I start it for the 1st time.
Thanks

It’s probably the blend door actuator. I just got mine fix. The parts only cost between 45-80 bucks but ford will charge you 6 hrs labor.

Mine has done it every morning for at least a year. Still regulates temp just fine. When it fails ill replace it. Book time on my f150 was 5 hours or so. I did it in 30 minutes. Depending ok which blend door is making noise I expect it to be just as easy.

I'll address it someday. I have other cars and issues to address. My 61 Corvair Rampside Pickup is feeling a little left out.

The rattle shows up behind the instrument cluster, it happened on my 2019, try putting a piece of tape underneath the defroster flap by the windshield . Ask AzScorpion for the old threads ..
